Nothing to do with me but interesting Wedge on flea - it's running SU carbs not EFi so presume the power is down. Modified bonnet with power bulge to accommodate the carbs. Guy has had it 10 years. Is it anyone on here?

Looks like the crankcase breather vents to the road so not ideal, but it will work.

I like the idea of carburettors instead of fuel injection but not when it has been recently modified and hasn't settled in yet. There is always the possibility that it may never settle in, even with further tweaking as the owner suggests. Nice looking car though, for someone who is confident and brave.

It wouldn't cost a lot to refit the correct injection system, sounds like despite allegedly spending thousands on it, he didn't spend them all in the right places.
Carbs can be just as much a minefield as injection.

Surely a backwards step from properly set up injection ?

My early motoring memories seem to be of constant fannying about with blinkin carbs...along with crap fuel consumption.

I'm not too sure about that. My early motoring memories are pleasant ones. Yes, we broke down and yes we did mess around with carbs, but at least I could understand them and they were a lot simpler than fuel injection, modules and computers. These days you need a lap top and complex programs to find out what's wrong with the car. They say FI is more economic but that doesn't seem to apply to my 400SE. No, give me carbs any day. They don't build cars like they used to. If they did, no one would be interested in owning a classic.

Personally I love playing with carbs. I can set up a mean twin SU arrangement, all with the aid of a bit of rubber hose. 32/36 downdraught webers are my favourite though, as long as they had a manual choke! Ah, when I was a lad........
