Retro Pace RC36 forks Options
Discussion
So my probably retro Orange P7 and Pace RC36 forks purchased new in 1997 are due (overdue) a service as they no longer don't adjust but continue to damp quite nicely. Now they were the dogs when new & expensive I recall, so I wonder if its worth servicing these - if you can, or replacing them with amore contemporary fork and if so which one to suit a steel hardtail?
Can you get parts as they sold out to DT Swiss years ago - are they DIYable - where does all that RC7 grease go - must be 20 years worth built up inside stanchions?
I guess the technology is somewhat dated but I would like to keep the bike working and o/e if possible. I must add I do own several more contemporary bikes, however, this one continues to serve me well and rides superbly dare I say even better than more recent machines and lighter !! - I guess considered a classic now but no kid gloves required as it gets ridden hard but only on occasion.
Options appreciated.

Give Tim price a call on the details below. He serviced mine (rc 36 pro class 2's) and brought them back to life inc correcting the missed factory recalls. He is also ex Pace staff.

Yes the are worth getting fixed and running well as their getting rare.

I was really quite disappointed when i finally got some Pace forks. After lusting after some RC35s as a kid i finally got some RC37s years later.
I'd have to say probably the worse forks i ever had. The Foxs (although slightly too soft) that replaced them are in a different class.
They did look pretty swish though. From what i remember they were pretty simple internally.

This thread has popped up at just the right time for me too.
I'm looking at recommissioning my old Cannondale Killer V 900 which is running a set of RC35 MXCD's (iirc?)
The elastomers (remember them?) are well shot inside them, other than that though they are a perfectly serviceable set of forks which I would like to keep with the bike if possible.
Has anybody any idea of the servicing costs on such a thing?
OP. It would be good to see some photos of your bike too if you have any?

Okay - spoke to Tim at English Fork. It would appear its worth servicing them. Its not a cheap option but I don't want cheap & less expensive than a set of new forks which may not suit the bike.
Around £70-100 all in for complete build & strip down unless any nasties are found !!!
Great guy & clearly knows his stuff - good to know there are knowledgeable (Ex Pace) folks about who can do this sort of thing in a throw away society.
As I said my P7 rides better than my more modern bikes in many respects so if its built well it worth keeping on the road.

I was going to say, if you don't fancy fixing it up, I'd be interested Around £70-100 all in for complete build & strip down unless any nasties are found !!!

Pace RC36 forks, Hope Extension, Middleburn Chainset & cranks , Chris King headset, Race Face BB Bars & Seat post, XTR mechs, XTR V brakes/levers (no discs then!), FIR Rims & Deore Hubs. 11.9 kg for a steel Frame set! I imagine you would only get a fraction of that back selling SH even with P7 frame being a cult classic these days.
