evening all,
looking at the box of my new snooper s3 neo, 2 things have perplexed me.
1) i got rid of my old s1 because of the up and coming ban, but apparently my s3 has a built in lazer detector as well. am i screwed as i will be included in the ban now?
2) i was under the impression that "true" gps detectors can only inform the user of "hazards" (ahem) detailed on the database itself. But apparently the s3 can 'detect' laser guns as well.
this leads me to ask, if it is using the same technology as my old s1, which wasnt too bad at picking up gatsos, and therefore is the gps function only used for specs and truvelos??
any help would be greatfully received

The S3 has built in laser detection and therefore will become illegal if the law is passed.
The fact that it has built in laser detection is why it says it can detect mobile speed traps as most mobile speed traps eg scamera vans use laser.
The GPS detector warns when you approach a fixed point. The fixed point could be anything but in terms of speed detection is typically the fixed location of every Gatso, truevelo, and SPECS cameras

Afraid you're right mate, an S3 Neo does use the same laser detection as an S1 so it will be banned.
I'll give you a few quid for it if you want out of it
Alternatively hang on until we know what the penalties will be and see if they work out cheaper than a days worth of speeding tickets.

I fail to understand why anyone would get rid of their radar and laser detector - even if they are banned.
They're not exactly easy to spot on your dash, and they look exactly like the GPS units - which will still be legal.
Given that you use the device to ensure you are driving legally - particularly areas where speed enforcement is common - they when targeted by whatever device the cops are using you'll already have ensured you are under the speed limit and so are vanishingly unlikely to be stopped.
If you are pulled over you'll be taking your chances - but is this really likely? After all - there's no Trafpol left to chase you - just scamera operators and GATSOs.

does anyone know if it would be possible to remove the laser device in the s3 to make it gps only if a ban did come in?
i see and understand what you are saying don by the way, but i wouldnt be able to suffer any points for a good long time yet ( for several reasons), and it looks like it will be an endorsable offence according to the gov bullshit ive just read (between 3-6 points). i prob wouldnt chance gettin a pull for just having a laser detector in the near future to be honest.

A firmware or disabling function will probaly be provided by the manufacturers for the laser side so they can still be used.
I am keeping my laser detector that is fitted with my road pilot micro, like it has been said, who is going to find it?
The only way they may come round your house and get you, is with the jammers, i.e. geting errors several times for your car, so decide to pay a visit. I am definately thinking of getting one of these, but will make sure it is easily removable, so if it does its job one day, will remove it for a while just in case I get a visit.

OK, I have an S4, which is the same chassis as the S3. If and when the ban comes into effect, the scatter detector on top pops off with little provocation, as I discovered. This will be replaced with a blanking gromet/epoxy and the photodiodes on the circuit board will also be covered with epoxy.
