997 GTS big service cost

They will always give you the 'worst case scenario' for any upcoming work in my experience...did they line item specifically what will need doing? Withiut knowing what it is exactly that they've highlighted, its hard to say one way or the other.
To give you an idea - Independents offering fixed price servicing quote around £450-600 for a major, but that's before any flagged wear and tear items (e.g. Brakes, clutch etc).

Yes its a Porsche main dealer and the cost included brake fluids. They specifically told me that a small service was c £500 so I'm mystified by the jump to c £1500. A bit confused. Whats this go to do with your purchase? You can have it serviced wherever you want once you have bought it.Thanks

The OPC could well be quoting for inpection/servicing/replacement of Spyder centrelock wheels hubs etc if the car has had track use. Even so it is excessive so I would haggle hard or go elsewhere.
I would not take a four year old GTS for servicing outside the Porsche network as it will adversely affect its residual value. Assuming of course it already has a full Porsche history which is likely if being retailed by them.

I just had a big bill on my 997 GT2, 3 new radiators at the front, new front splitter and stone guards and spark plug service at OPC, parts alone were well over £1500. Total bill £2072. Got 11% off parts and only charged me for spark plug labour.
Have now bought mesh for front and will be fitting very soon... Radiators were originals and now 7 years old so worth the investment really and should last if protected.
Car feels much better on new plugs and a bit of a tune up, even though last ones had only done 6k miles, I'm really surprised tbh.
It's a relatively small price to pay to keep the car in mint condition considering the rise in value it's enjoyed over last two and half years, so I don't expect too many like that.

Unless you've got a warranty that obliges OPC network servicing, going to a reputable independent (JAZ, Paragon, JZM, Parr, Specialist Cars Malton etc) will in no way adversely affect value.

It really depends on what items they deem will need attention in the next (major) service Jeremy - so I'd get a list from them now if you haven't already, and yes try and get them to agree to cover some of the cost if possible for anything that's not covered by the warranty. Assuming beause you're buying it from the OPC you want the 2 year warranty, and this does mean you'll have to let them do the work, but it's still your choice what work *actually* gets done at the end of the day. You can space things out if needs be.

Try getting a bid on an non full OPC history 911 up to say 7 years old........a GTS would be struggling and a 'proper GT' 911 would be very low.
I am not criticising the standard of work being inferior at SOME independents....everyone is aware it is often better, if that of course can be proved at warranty claim time...... and in most cases better value. But the newer the car, the more crucial is the proper OPC stamp otherwise prepare to be shafted at trade in time by receiving a low bid from an independent only...its not rocket science. Simples.

4 year service on a 997.2 GTS is classed as a MAJOR and in addition to this it will need the bi-annual brake fluid change and the 4-year interval spark plug change.
You should be looking around £1,200 all in from an OPC. I negotiated the same work on my GTS down to £860 but I did supply my own oil (Mobil 1) and play two dealers against each other.
