Found this on e bay,
anyone tried it? looks too cheap to be any good. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=72205&item=7949259705&rd=1

They don't say how it works, but it looks rather like one of those bodges which makes the water temp sender read low to fool the ECU to run richer. Rather crude and might not give the extra enrichment under the rev/load conditions where you want the extra power, but it might make some difference. Component cost about 20p, how much were you planning to spend on it?
Found a different one, without the naff looking knob. Adding upto 20%
This is what advert says:
You will get a mod that will modify your AIR/Fuel ratio and slightly change your engine timing to run stronger and with increased power.
It will modify any standard ECU sysem by telling it that the incoming air in the intake system is cold, this advances the ignition to compensate producing more power. It does this by sending a message to the IAT (Intake Air Temperature) or O2 sensor of the engine.
Gonna give it a try, £3.50 wont break the bank and hopefully not the engine
Hopefully i post a positive answer next week

If these do offer a genuine increase and "do what they say on the tin" it will have to be able to plug into the ECU and modify fuel/air mixture/ratio and also control the injector timing duration but seeing as it doesn't even mention on the link anything about what make/model of car it is suitable for then one can only assume that you'd have to look into where you'd have to wire the unit into in your car. So, where exactly would you wire the unit for all of these functions in an S?
Frankly, I don't think that you could unless you were a pretty knowledgeable fuel injection engineer. I'd alos imagine that you'd have to open the ECU to control injector opening duration on an S.
I know you can get plug in tuning boxes for petrol and diesel cars but you would normally buy a specific box for a certain engine and fuel management system.
It's also worth considering that most petrol engines don't allow much scope for increasing BHP purely by changing the fuel/air ratio etc, probably around 2 - 5 BHP. Diesel turbo aspirated is different as there is a large latitude of adjustment in a diesel to accomodate them running on low grade diesel in other countries. I have a diesel tuning box that I had fitted in my VW and it made a huge difference, (I can vouch for that
)and wqhen I bought it I had to order the one for my specific car and with a certain type of multi pin plug in the wiring loom for the engine management and all the plugs matched the VW/Audi plugs in the car etc.
These other types of "one unit fits all" and "gain extra BHP" etc from a thing that looks like a simple potentiometer (variable resistor) are usually too good to be true.
You are better off putting this money towards a FSE power boost valve that are known to work and with very good results on the S.... IMHO!

Go on TOPTON, let us know if one works.
I am no purist...and I do like a bit of power when I want it
And the knobs the wrong colour, has to be black
PS Tim,
I'm hoping to get my car back next Monday with new exhaust all done, so should be with me when you come over. Fingers crossed!

Hi KS2, did you get my mail? ![]()
Mail me your address and a suitable time for arrival.
What about those speed humps you posted about, will I get over them?
Hope cars done as I want an under bonnet nose!
Hi Tim,
Whoops ...just checked e-mail and read it.
To be honest I seem to get so many "buy Viagra" and "Hi, I'm free and single and in your area, wanna get down and dirty" type e-mails on that address that I hardly ever look at it now
I think I must have had my address picked up somewhere and stuck on a silly distribution for all manner of stupid things.
I use another instead (just change the "." after "k" to a "_")
and that's my alternative address or best one to get me on is at full_thrust@tiscali.co.uk (my anonymous PH address) and that'll also get to me. I digress! Anyway, yes the 5th is still fine for
then
My only curiosity, apart from do they turn the S2 into a bullet for the price of a bag of chips, tee hee, is...under what possible circumstances would you actually turn the setting lower if it worked? "Oh, I think I will drive really slowly today and set it at only one" I don't think so!

or maybe even a power gain. We will see
