A salutary Panamera experience
Discussion
My tracker alerted me to a problem with the car one night last week. I'm presently 1000 miles away so I could only verify that the car had not moved. A friend went round to check all was well and reported the good news - the car was there- and the bad news that it had no headlights. No signs of other damage or forced entry.
Porsche Assistance (sic) declined to recover the car because I couldn't produce a signature at the point of collection and great credit to Porsche east London for going the extra mile and sending a team into the wilds of Essex collect it .
I see on the web that these lights are highly valued by those in the business of cannabis farming. Whether that motivated the theft of my lights will never be known; certainly the local police have little expectation of finding out. In any event I will be trying to find some way of protecting my new lights in future and my experience last week would suggest others do likewise.

As far as I can gather the lights were removed from outside the vehicle; I've had an initial report from Porsche east London which suggests there's been no damage whatsoever during the removal process either to the bodywork surrounding the lights or the tray in which they sit. So, the good news is that the thieves are technically proficient and take pride in their work. The bad news is that it's evidently very easy to remove the lights if you know what you're doing.
Unfortunately I'm still abroad and haven't been able to see the vehicle but I'm sure the service guys will have had a good look.
