I know it's great. I know my TVR runs better with it. I'm not interested why. BUT.......

My nearest Shell garage is 40miles away which is a real bummer. It gets afill up whenever I go past it whether it's empty or not (normally is!!!). Question is - is there something that comes a close second. I find that it seems to run the same whatever I use until I fill up with Optimax when it appears to get a rocket up it's arse. But am I missing one. Please someone tell me there is something out there that I can kid the engine with - pleeeeease!!!

I've had good results with Millers.

Octane booster is what you are after. The occasional bottle of VSP helps lube the valve seats and guides too.

What about Esso Energy?

My V8S seems to run well with that stuff.

Many years ago I used to buy a product called PROBOOST. This was an octane booster.

I'm in a similar position... Chim loves Optimax, but nearest garage is a good 30 minute drive away... so hardly practical..!

Mine lives on BP Ultimate most of the time, and it runs very happily. Also tried the Texaco Super and the Esso Energy Super.. but stuck with BP. (You also get Nectar points)

www.tetraboost.com - gives a 2 to 8 point octane boost dependant on dose and is fully approved by the FBHVC..

Thanks for the advice folks. Tried a tank of ESSO Energy at the weekend and the old girl seemed to be quite happy with the change of tipple.

Fair way to my nearest Optimax or even Super....

What I've done is make sure it's got a tank of pure bog standard unleaded when it goes for service/tuning. Runs like a good-un and when I do find Optimax then the over-run pos and bangs get better. Performance doesn't change too much with this cunning plan

I'm a Millers stockist .. best thing is it's lambda safe on the +2 octane booster

you can use the +3 tho cos you have not cats or lambdas in the wedge

I've used millers a lot with no problems. Mind you the best fuel I ever had was a 50:50 mix of genuine 4* with super unleaded and a bootle of Amway Octane boost . Amway stopped doing the octane boost but the car seemed to love it.

We have BP Ultimate here which is 98RON - no Optimax though that's only in the Eastern States although I checked out the Shell website and Optimax is 98RON also.

Assuming there is BP Ultimate in the UK what's the advantage of Optimax over that ?

Surely timing would have to be further advanced to get any gain from 98RON and an octane booster ?
