Here is a blast from the past for all you classic F1 buffs.
I`ve come across this photo of Frank Williams Racing Cars.I`m almost sure it was taken in 1972 outside their workshop in Bennet Road Reading.(I lived just round the corner in those days).
I know Williams was in Cippenham from 68-71 but as the car has a Politoys sticker it must be 72.That`s the year Politoys became involved and Frank moved to Reading.Am I correct ??
Also is the car a March 721 or a Politoys FX3.

It is a Frank Williams Politoys FX3

"Backing from the toy manufacturer Politoys enabled Frank Williams to build his first in-house Formula one racing chassis which was designed by Len Bailey. The chassis was built at Gomm Metal Developments and the car was finished in the workshop next door by Frank's mechanics. The car was driven by Henri Pescarolo, but unfortunately he crashed and destroyed the car in its first race at the British Grand Prix."

Thanks CT,so it must be 1972 and it IS Bennet Road Reading.Around 74 I got to know a guy who worked there and he let me into the workshop one evening to have a look round,in those days it was ISO Marlboro`s.I had a rummage in a skip out the back and found a damaged Cosworth DFV piston !! I still have it,fully polished on my desk.
Those were the days, just think of an odd bod getting into the Williams F1 facility today? and getting his hands on a Mercedes piston !!

That's not Reading, that pic is taken outside Gomm Metal Developments in Manor Way, Old Woking. The place is still there, the drawing above the door is now JUST visible.

Thanks lotus72 , I`ve just had a look at it on Google map,its called F1 car wash now,the building looks just as it was back then.So I`m almost there, the car is a Politoys FX3 so it must be 1972 and that was the year Williams moved to Reading.Bennet Road is still here in Reading but the whole area has changed so much,I still have my memories of the place together with my Cosworth piston.
All I want is a photo of the Williams HQ in Bennet Rd Reading. Any one got one??
