Evening all!
I inspected my brakes pre mot the other day and noticed the nearside were low and a pad had virtually disintegrated. Offside had loads of wear left.
So, I decided to change the pads.

Offside, no problem at all.

Nearside, i.e. the problem side, the cylinder wont push back. I normally use a large set of swan necks, however will get my hands on a caliper wind back tool tomorrow and give that a go.

If it isn't moving, what's the best method of getting it moving. Brute force isn't working. My fear is that the caliper has rusted inside stopping the cylinder moving back.....

If I do need another caliper is this simple? I presume its a case of removing brake fluid reservoir top, undoing brake hose to the caliper and putting new one on.... My other question, is what does the brake pipe connect with. The previous owner caked everything in waxoyl. Great, no rust, but gloopy crap everywhere!

If anyone could provide a decent picture or link I would be much obliged

I dont see why you should have the reservoir top off, other than to fill up. The brake pipe goes along the chassis rails and up into the NS bulkhead, close to where the fuel pipes come up to the fuel rail. Four pipes go into bulkhead, the one on the bottom is clutch, next is rear brakes, top two are front.

Listed as from a cosworth model so im not sure if they were slightly bigger than the standard sierra.
As you say its probably knackered, easy to change just remember to bleed through afterwards.

Any half decent Motor Factor should have Chimaera on their system, no need to go "guessing" what Ford they came from..... clicky.

And they should deal in part numbers not makes so no "TVR tax" wink

Hi Mike,
if its a front caliper it should push in. If the back, it needs to be wound in. I've used point nose pliers to wind in previously.

If the piston is seized you can get them refurbished at http://www.biggred.co.uk/ or best to look on eBay as there are always used\refurbished calipers for sale which will be far cheaper than buying new.

Cheers,
Mark

It's a push job, normally a large set of swan neck's sort the fronts out on other cars but sadly no go with this one.
I've bought a 'proper' caliper wind/push kit now (after many years) I'll douse it with WD40 and give it a push biggrin

Repair kits are readily available, so are the calipers. Someone will be along soon to confirm which sierra model it is but im guessing they are all the same.

That's a great spot, I saw the others on ebay but they don't fit mine, which is a bog standard 1994 400.

If anyone knows if these are the correct ones, I'll buy that.

Then you want a caliper from any Sierra/Granada fitted with rear disc brakes or ABS and solid rear discs (vented calipers are different) wink look down this page http://www.cheapbrakecalipers.co.uk/store/index.ph...

Thanks. So the one that was highlighted above, from a 2.0 cosworth should be the correct version. I think the picture shows a 'generic' caliper. which, as it happens looks to be correct!

Thanks for the help chaps...
