Does anyone know why data recorded by Garmin edge devices varies so much when shared to Strava?

Distances, speeds and calories are all altered.......usually a good deal lower on Strava.

Probably because you have autostop enabled on your garmin and various other crappy factory settings.

If you turn all that sort of thing off it will give you the right data, all strava does is display what it has from the unit. The only people who seem to have an issue are those with autostop enabled.

Don't worry about calories, unless you have a powermeter its total fiction and MILES away.

That's weird though isn't it? I have autostop enabled and between my Garmin and uploading to Strava, I lost about 350ft of ascent. the mileage and times remained the same, just the ascent changed.

If you click on the elevation on strava (there is a small ? Next to it) it will correct it.

Also farming auto stop is defaulted to kick in around 4mph so if you're moving slightly or haven't totally stopped strava still records but the Garmin won't I suppose. This will chop your avg down. I disable autostop so when I upload my avg goes up as strava is counting the stops but the Garmin isn't and the avg falls when at lights etc

I've only had auto pause enabled for my last two rides as they've had larger rider numbers and cafe stops, but the moving times and distance and avg. and max speeds are different across all rides. I understand the calorie argument without a power meter etc, but as Strava gets the data from the Garmin I'd have thought the results would have been similar even with adjustments. Calorie calculations are consistently less than 1/2 of the Garmin figure on Strava but speeds and distances can go +/-.

Edge 200?

Without its own barometer the websites all use their own maps to calculate ascent. The otherEdges have one so the websites take the readings from the unit.

Strava used to cut mine severely when I used a 200

my 510 has the barometer built in and still strava changes the data. For the life of me I can't see why it doesn't just display the data its given by the Garmin.

Pretty sure there is a correction/override setting on the Strava website

Yeah it is a 200. I've been tempted with a shiny new 800 so this gives me some justification at least.
