Hi all, we have a couple of foreign trips lined up this summer and have bought the above to speed up getting through the tolls in France. Our car is a V12VR.

Looking at the instructions for fitting it says that the tag should be located in the dark, mottled area by the reversing mirror. Well, looked at ours and the mottled area finishes more or less in line with the mirror and it has no such area either side of the casing.

It does say that if there is no such area then you should fix the tag to the casing of the mirror. This is covered in Alcantara and whilst ok attaching to the windscreen not so sure about fixing direct to the Alcantara.

My question is does fitting it to the mirror casing obstruct the tag working? Where do you fit yours to make sure it activates?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Ian,

Mine is fitted just behind the mirror on the drivers side. Make sure you get the bracket on the right way round so the tag can slide in and out. One of out Le Mans gang got it wrong last year and had to remove it, that glue is strong yikes

I wouldn't let it get anywhere near your alcantara.

Works fine from there.

Nick

Ah - I seem to have one of those mounts on my windscreen (I know the previous owner was a Le Mans regular) and I was wondering how easy it would be to remove. Sounds like it will be staying there!

I've stuck mine onto the glass just to the left of mirror, (passengers side) I wouldn't worry too much, went to Le Mans a couple of weeks ago and some of the French drivers just wave the tag out the window........

If you have a passenger just get them to wave it in the general area of the screen the instructions indicate. It soom becomes clear the optimum method and position. Worked for me anyway.

I had big problems on my former FFRR with the complexity of the screen interfering with the tag. We did struggle even with the passenger waving it around. By contrast, in my former N420 I fitted the mount close up to the mirror in the very small shaded area and it worked every time, up and down to Nice. I'm just about to fit another mount in my V12V and am hopeful of it being OK. I would not actually fit it to the mirror; they are a nightmare to remove, and I've had a few mounts which I've had to leave in previous cars. I was in Harrogate last year and popped in to Liber-T's UK HO, and they gave me a few mounts for free, and checked the transponder to make sure it was all OK.

No need to fit, just hold it up to the sensor, then you can use it in multiple vehicles

Anyone got a photo. I find these are sensitive to position. In the RS6 it works sometimes.

Need to fit to V12VS for Le mans this week.

For those who have it working did you fit to windscreen beside mirror housing?

Thanks

I used one of these for the first time this year. Stupidly I put it on the driver’s side of the rear view mirror (under instruction from a friend). Complete nightmare at every toll. Moved it to the passenger side and absolutely no problems whatsoever. I even found just holding it up near to the mirror on the passenger side did the trick. The 3 other cars all had theirs mounted on the passenger side near the rear view mirror and none of them had any issues,

Thanks.

I had it mounted on the Discovery 4; worked great.

Bought the RS6 and no black shaded area, stuck it to the mirror housing.

First Non-stop toll point it didn't work, had to stop, French drivers going nuts behind.

Wife pulling it off the catch and waving it frantically, much stress for maybe 10 seconds which felt like 2 hours.

Then found the exact spot through much stressful trial-and-error at the next toll points.

Want to avoid the stress in the Vantage!

So I will go for passengers side, beside the mirror mounting.

If it goes wrong my son will have the stress on Thursday afternoon when we head down there!

Thank you

This position at passenger side has been faultless in my last three vantages. The first advance to the barrier especially at 20kph is always nerve wracking until you hear the bleep indicating you are ok.

Perfect thank you. Fitted in the same place (and ordered another for the RS6 so never need to swap around)!

The 20 km/h is always a squeaky moment for the first time each year ;-)
