GT4 Stereo Upgrade
Discussion
I'm bound to get loads of "I'd rather listen to the engine note" comments, I shall ignore them all. I love music and a rubbish stereo just annoys me.
I have Burmester in my Cayman S and its awesome, I'd choose it again for my GT4 if I could. I can't so I'm revisiting my misspent youth and heading to the aftermarket.
Porsche Sound Package Plus = 9 speakers, 235 watts total
I intend to replace all factory drivers with Audisson Prima range (except the front centre which is 3 inch so that will be from the Audisson Voice range if I can buy a single one rather than a pair).
All 9 speakers should be direct fit replacement without any modification to the car at all so its 100% reversible. These will all be powered by the factory head unit and three channel amp that comes as part of the SPP package. They are specifically designed to be as efficient as possible so I'm hoping for a decent improvement over stock the speakers. There's no dedicated subwoofer but two 8 inch drivers in the doors isn't too shabby in such a small cabin.
2 X Front Mids AP 4 25W X 2 from head unit
2 X Front Tweeters AP 1 shared with front mids from head unit
2 X Front woffers AP 8 55W X 2 from SPP factory amp
2 X Rear Mids AP 4 25W X 2 from head unit
1 X Front Centre AV 3 25W X 1 from SPP factory amp
http://www.audison.eu/index.php?page=productLine&a...
Should be about £750 plus install (which should be minimal because they are direct replacements)
I'll report back once it's all done with results.

Sweet good luck!
You may need the absorbing foam around the speakers in case you get some vibration with the low end. See my pic in the below thread. Also when you put the door back together ensure there are no cables that could vibrate against the trim, if so tape them.

I cannot stand sounds in a car, the more expensive the s
tter it sounds imo lol
I tend to have it as quite as possible, bass - 5 and treble near max just for radio use.
then when I get home I can listen to real music on my Gold Monitor Audio's.
I have never heard a good car set up even at £15k so I refuse to listen to it bar background noise.
yes I did the twin subs and even phoenix gold amps (still have them in the attic) but it was still s
t vs my home set up.

so how bad is the stock 4 speaker setup?
I only have experience of Sound Package Plus in a Cayman courtesy car and the Burmester in my car.Everyone is different, I'm sure some people think the base 4 speaker system is fine but I'm not one of them.

I appreciate decent sounds in a car. I've been spoiled of late with Harman Kardon in my Disco and Mini - excellent and factory fit. 13 and 9 speakers respectively including sub.
Why put up with rubbish if you are spending time in there - especially as a DD. I would want something decent even in the GT4 that you can enjoy, should you choose. In the TVR the stereo is useless but when driving that it is left switched off anyway and it is not a DD.
Good luck with your install. Shame the standard factory setup is not better. If I get a car, I would also be looking to improve this area, so do let us know how you get on. Crank it up to 11 son.

I notice you are in London - who are you going to use for the install/supply? Also who else is good - it's being a long while since I have put systems in a car.
Auto Audio seem to be only Moro house
Sextons - I used on my mkII Gti donkeys years ago, not sure if they are any good these days

Like you.. I wanted to have something done to my 991 GT3 upon arrival to upgrade the sound system.
The reality is.. I haven't felt the need to in the 4 months of ownership of the car. These cars are so focused that when you full on you want to concentrate and listen to the noises informing you on what's going on.
And they are noisy. Quite noisy. So you miss the details of your better install because they get lost.
All in.. I have to say I never felt the normal system wanting for when I am in cruising mode and want to have some entertainment.
Similar for the camera. I would have loved to get one from factory. But the fact that it would cost 2k and require numerous pieces to get disassembled I gave up on it. Although I do curse at Porsche in various languages when I need to manoeuvre in tight spaces.

absolutely OP.... I'm a huge music lover and part of enjoying my car usually means loud music!! lol! id personally be trying to stump up for the o.e option but i see what you wouldnt it bumps the price of the car up quite some way. Please post back when you have the work done and just make sure no mods need to made to the car or the wiring for it all to fit. my little z4m has the logic 7 setup and its brilliant... really love it, just in the process of trying to quite the exhaust noise so i can enjoy it MORE!
I told the guys at Sextons in Wandsworth that the only condition my other half has for allowing me to pull apart and mess with the GT4 is that it has to sound as good as, if not better than the Burmester. They rate the Burmester system pretty highly so my expectations are high and they don’t think they will be met without adding an additional amplifier.
So the new plan is to put a very small Audison AP 8.9 Bit Amplifier next to the factory amp in the front. The amplifier includes a full 9 channel DSP which will be able to rectify any strange equalisation coming out of the PCM and give a nice flat (and very tunable) response. Its rated at eight channels at 35W each which isn’t much but its nice clean power since its Class D. Hopefully it will punch above its specification. Sextons said that if I’m not happy with the results from the single 8 X 35 Watt amp they can swap it for an AP 4.9 Bit amplifier and an AP 4D Amplifier. This setup retains the same 9 channel DSP but doubles the power available from 8 X 35W to 8 X 70W.
Front left 1” Tweeter in the dash Prima AP 1 Ch 1 35W

Front right 8” woffer in the door Prima AP 8 Ch 5 & 6 bridged 70W
Front Centre 3” Mid in the dash Retain stock Factory SPP Amp 25W
Rear left Mid behind the seats Prima APX 4 Ch 7 35W
Rear right Mid behind the seats Prima APX 4 Ch 8 35W
Sextons are going to do a white/pink noise RTA (Real Time Analysis) of my Burmester equipped Cayman S before I part exchange it and use that as a starting point to tune the DSP for the Audison system.

If the GT4 is as close to the GT3 as we are led to believe, then certainly a point worth noting! The reality is.. I haven't felt the need to in the 4 months of ownership of the car. The NVH in the GT3 is pretty bad for a modern car, for obvious readings, and of course there isn't the quite same amount of sound proofing so imagine this would be an issue with upgrading the system as it will just cause rattles!
BTW, the camera function is built into the PCM. I got a camera attached to the rear numberplate. It wasn't £2k!

OP - How did you get on with this install?
As I suspected the SSP is really poor so I am going to look into options to improve.
My car that was originally due in October still hasn't arrived! Partly my fault for choosing PTS and buckets. As I suspected the SSP is really poor so I am going to look into options to improve.
If you can believe my OPC (I don't) it's built and waiting for the ship at Emden.

I'm not sure there is A lot you can do,for me the issue isn't the poor sound it's all the noise the car makes ,listening to any stereo in it involves raising the volume to ear damaging levels to drown out the road/engine/tyre etc noise. As I suspected the SSP is really poor so I am going to look into options to improve.
Not sure it requires ear damaging levels or maybe the GT4 is that much noisier. Have to admit I thought the Bose sounded worse than SPP with Burmester sounding best. Some people report success with the JBLs and there is also a good Israeli manufacturer that makes the very large size 3 piece speakers can you can use in a Cayman

I am finding the speakers ok but the tyre / emgine noise is what causes the isues
Tyre noise will be slightly improved by swapping form Cup 2's to PS4s . Happy to leave engine ,noise as I like it as it is, but might add some dynamat to stop some of the NVH .
Anyone thied other solutions
