First world problems or whatever but I've been refused a test drive in an M4 due to age? Anyone else had this? Something about only having cover for 25 and over.

Currently have an E92 M3 and made that clear to them.

This is BMW Park Lane.

Mentioned seeing financial commitment etc or they were happy to take me out, pretty offensive IMO.

It is fairly common. Check out the Supercars of London YouTube channel, shows the lad who was under 25 get the same treatment. He dealt with it and the first time he drove a "supercar" was when he picked up the keys to his V8 R8. Think VX had similar restrictions when I test drove my GTS, though it did not affect me as I was 30 smile

How have you approached them? Just phoned up and asked if you can have a test drive? If you're genuinely serious about buying one, get yourself down there, let them take you out, show them you're serious and then you may find that the test drive restriction disappears. Not sure I'd want to test drive a car at a central London dealer though - there's nowhere to test it unless you're keen on 0-30mph sprints...

Never had that issue at my local BM stealer. Surely you having the cash in your briefcase ready to buy makes no difference to their insurance policy? Sounds like the salesman didn't think you were genuine. I had a similar issue when I was 19 wanting to buy an S2000 new, no dealer would let me drive one so had to buy one to get my drive. Good job it was a good car. Ha.

I had a few issues whilst looking at cars before buying my Z4 coupe at 23. So I went to a dealer that wasn't arrogant enough not to talk to me and bought one there.

You could always put down a 1k deposit before the test drive on the condition that it is refundable.

When buying the M3 at 28 my local dealer was fine although a couple I spoke to wouldn't even entertain a booking a test drive over the phone.

Just find a decent salesman at a decent dealer, let them know you're genuine and you'll be fine.

Most trade policies have these sorts of restrictions, nothing to do with arrogant dealers.

I booked a test drive for one of the most powerful super saloons on the market via a webform. Go figure. If their insurance will not cover you, nothing you will do can change that. At VX, not even the under 25 staff were insured on the policy.

Nope if you've got cash, you're in. Hence young traders etc being able to test and buy exotica. A foolish dealer turning you away!

My point is that BMW dealers can take under 25s out in M cars - Parl Lane were likely just using insurance as an excuse...
