I had been considering getting CF mirrors for my 07 V8V for a while, but I couldn't really find a part I thought I'd be happy with. As far as I know, many of the cheaper ones (i.e., this part http://www.vivaperformance.com/carbon-fiber-mirror... are literally just "caps" that either fit over the existing mirror or don't have the fittings inside the mirror to replace the OE mirror without affixing it with tape or adhesive. I think the RSC and VCollection pieces are wrapped OE shells, but at nearly $800 for a pair it was a bit steep to see if I liked it.

Somehow I stumbled upon this site: http://www.partsforvolvosonline.com/product_info.p...

When I bought the pair it was only £69.99 (now shows £79.99), but even after shipping I was able to get the pair of covers for less than $140! Know what's great about them? They're wrapped OE shells so they should be a complete replacement. I'm also completely shocked at the quality of the weave and clear coat considering this was only $140 for the pair. I absolutely can't tell it apart from the other OE carbon parts I have on the car already.

So, I just wanted to share that if you're in the market for some CF mirror covers (for a pre-2010 car) check out the link to partsforvolvos. I couldn't *NOT* buy this for $140..... so I took a gamble and I'm really glad I did!

Here are some pictures of them. I haven't had a chance to try and mount them, so I will update this thread when I can verify the fitment.

Here are the pics!

EDIT: These are now sold out (a user below got the last set) and for some reason PFS has removed the listing from their site. If you'd like to see what the listing looked like, here's a google cached version: http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cac...

I had previously corresponded with Karl Franz on here and he sent me the Volvo part numbers of the caps he bought a wrapped himself.
The Volvo part numbers Karl Franz sent me are the same as the part numbers referenced on your link, so they should fit.

I have ordered a set for myself

Just got an email back from the Volvo parts supplier and it looks like I have got the last set available.
I actually tried to order two sets and the supplier refunded part of my order and they state

"I am very sorry but we only have 1 pair of these carbon covers left at present.
we only took a few sets from the supplier to test the water and they have a leadtime of several months"

If others are interested might be worthwhile sending them an email to drum up interest

They look really good and a reasonable price too! The link seems to be broken though, saying no product found when I click on it! I've tried navigating to the product using the drop downs on their site, but can't find the carbon ones, only painted/primed shells. I hope they haven't sold out!

Well that was fast!

Hopefully when they come back in stock the price isn't all jacked up because they've seen the referrers from this thread and know they've got a part that fits an Aston Martin tongue out

The link does not work because I bought the last set available, see my posts further up which explains.

How do you get the covers off? I gave up in the end because it felt like I was going to break them.

Hi, please can we see these on the car (and if possible the method of changing them over without breaking something)?

Thanks,

Mark

If you scroll halfway down to this post by Karl Franz it shows a method of removal using a plastic "Trim Tool"

An update on the Volvo parts CF mirror caps.

I purchased the only other set available from the Volvo parts supplier and they were delivered this afternoon.

I folded in the mirrors to allow easier access to the existing caps and using my highly professional "removal / fitting kit" (see below) carefully removed the OEM caps
The ice scraper was used to lift up the existing cap enough to get the plastic Budweiser bottle top remover into the gap and slowly lift the existing cap up and away from the existing housing.
I then practised using the existing cap to find the best way to fit these back on, it seemed the best way is to locate the front clips and sort of roll the cap on, the press down and into the mirror surround.
It is quite tricky to get them on and off, but I did not force anything and risk a breakage.

I think I will use the plastic Budweiser bottle top opener to crack open a beer tonight to celebrate a good result at £79 for the pair of CF caps
