Stuck in low gear

Got a specialized Allez, stuck in low gear wont change, yesterdays ride resulted in the derailleur hitting the rear wheel and the chain coming off, got the chain back on began riding then that's where the gears decided to go straight to low gear and remain.

Great result considering I was 5miles from home, wasn't pleasant lol

I don't have much experience playing with the gears/derailleur so any info appreciated.

Anywhere in SE Essex a good place to go for servicing ?

sounds like cable might have come loose at the rear mech end

does the cable seem loose?

cables are all tight

5 miles? You lucky sod! That kind of stuff normally happens when you're 50 miles out!

Could be a bent rear hanger? Don't know anywhere in SE Essex but any local bike shop should be able to diagnose and fix, whatever it is.

Major long shot but how old is the shifter cable?
If its old and frayed - and about to snap - it can do that

Changing the cables and outers will make a huge difference anyway if old, it isnt at all difficult with some Internet help, but again without seeing the bike its difficult to diagnose your problem

thanks all took a trip to decathlon at Thurrock all sorted for £16, both top and bottom derailleurs where playing up, all cables where good so he adjusted them and its better than it was before hand, not a bad price and a decent service if anyone is looking.
