Long term sick
Discussion
just had ACDF. Disk removed from my spine and basically been told absolute rest for 6 weeks, no driving even.
Pain is very minimal, lucky I guess. 5 days in I feel bore and basically useless
I understand have to look after my spine for a while but boring.
Signed off for 6 weeks and because of this HR say I can't even work from home. Likely to b another 6 weeks after due to my commute too.
What to do? Watched move TV than I have in years,
CD collection to be listened to from first
CD ever purchased.
Feel useless, sooner it hurt. Still awake at silly o'clock too.
What would you do? Thinking about a cruise with my mother as she fancies it and dad doesn't .

That would be a nice thing to do with your mum. I spent a few months at home Ill,but I just wasted it by mostly sleeping.
This is my favourite idea so far, will have to wait a few weeks, even the wife thought It was a nice idea and suggested taking her mum too. Week around the med maybe, not too far as flight likely to new comfortable. Looks like pain has finally arrived, far from unbearable but enough of a nasty niggle to prevent proper sleep.
Steri strips now removed and I can't believe how well it has healed nor how small the actual cut is.
I shall celebrate by having an extra long soak in the bath, lovely. Finally can wash my hair after near a week.

I was off for six weeks at the start of the year thanks to a cancer scare. I have young children (2 & 4) who are at nursery for three days of the week so the time I had to myself was actually fairly limited. During that time I set about collating all our digital photos as it had all got a bit out hand over the years, photos on various PCs, some backed up, some not, etc. Also had a big clear out of the garage as it had got into quite a state after several large DIY jobs done over the summer. Finally managed to get out for a couple of decent walks on the sunnier days, not something I can do much of now with the kids as their little legs won't go so far.
I guess with a back condition the amount of physical stuff you can do is a bit limited but then I'd happily catch up on my movie backlog as that is something else I rarely have time for any more as staying awake in the evenings is tricky

Indeed hundreds of things I would love to get on and do. Trouble is I can't. Almost zero physical stuff first few weeks, slowly building up. Apparently can take 12 months to fully heal. Potentially never ride a roller coaster again.
