981 Spyder who's buying and why, I don't get the concept !
Discussion
ok, not being funny here but I can see why the GT4 has had a bit of hype, it has a lot of new parts, adjustable sus, wider rubber, big brakes and the 3.8.
And of course the only Manual GT you can buy new.
But let's take the 981 Spyder.
I don't get who want's it ! No hype or test reviews on it either, in fact a very flat launch !
It's based on the 981 which is a bit meh as far as driving goes imo of course.
It's like Porsche said, ok what's poor about the 987.2 Spdyer, the roof, lets keep that but make it worse and make it more like a 1971 MGB non removable item, and for added annoyance lets not allow people to get into the boot if it's on ! (cannot be sure on that one, but it does look like no rear access)
lets take the worse bits from the 981 and fit electric steering and hand brake.
Lets NOT add any GT3 parts !
And lets not offer the new 918 seats anymore.
But lets fit the 3.8 but detune it even more.
where does it sit now ?, it's not focused so why take one over the 987.2 Spyder esp at £20k to swap.
It's far far less usable than the GTS but not fun to be a week end only car.
It's not really any faster than the 981 GTS which you would notice and lets face it £2k on a GTS would match it's performance. (A PDK GTS will prob lap faster for joe average)
It's not a tech fest so NO PDK or electric roof to make it a nice daily with a 3.8 (what I had hoped it would be)
It's no lighter when you add back in the radio and AC !
And it's not even a looker with those new style humps and fat arse, but that is subjective I guess, and only my view on that aspect.
So we have a less focused car than the GT4 or even the 987.2 Spyder but no PDK option and a 1970's roof !!
people want one why ?

you are going to upset a lot of people but I for one get where you are coming from but I am also doubting the gt4 over my spyder now although clearly more effort has been made in its pre production(22months with the motorsport division)!i can say what I like because I have been allocated both cars at some stage and I am not favouring the only one I was offered/allocated!
BUT until we see a car in the flesh, drive it or read UK press reports can we truly comment so until then we should sit on the fence and let the ones who are allocated a car enjoy the experience and look forward to getting their cars!

It,s not an enjoyable experience buying a car though is it lol, (not ltd ones any way with no test drives)
The fun is in the hunting, test driving, not the buying I find. Buying just seems a pain , a wait and a winter car, no 918 seats, big delays and colours on and off. Enjoyable it's not.
I am not 100% excited by the GT4 either ( I might be when I drive it in July I hope) but lucky enough to be able to not sell any cars till it arrives and then choose what to sell once I have used them for a bit, only good thing about people willing to pay overs.
I like the adjustment on the Gt4 as that is what I have spent most my money on doing the mods on my Spyder getting it how I want it to drive.
I just don't get the 981 Spyder buyer, what they want from it as a driving experience hence the question here who's buying and why, as it all looks a bit of riding a wave of hype for a ltd number car just because it has a 3.8.

Not a bad pair sported by Mrdemon.
but the 981 is now a lot softer and less exciting, so they bring out a less exciting Spyder but people want it.
In fact people are selling up the 987.2 Spyder for it, I wondered why ? just because is has a 3.8 ! but it's even more detuned than the GT4 one.
As for tuning Porsche's, NOT many people even do it, people won't even switch from N spec, so making a 981 into a focused beast is also a moot point.
The 981 base car can now have the x73 pack, so the 981 Spyder is just a GTS with a detuned 3.8 but now with a MGB 1970 roof !
where the 987.2 Spyder saved 80kg's had a bespoke shock and damper set up which imo along with the R makes them perfect UK B road blasters.

Joke statement of the month.
we have already found out you are clueless on matters on how cars drive, with the 911 GTS statements and the 991 GT3 PDK statements and even the 458S statments. but even for you a noddy in a PDK GTS will lap quicker than a noddy in a 981 Spyder.

when you look at the weights it is laughable, the saving comes from the buckets alone and the delete of the AC (very small bit on the roof but weight back in in the brakes). GTS with buckets will be the same weight as the new Spyder sorry to say. (10 kg in it ish)
So a lot lighter lol you are a very funny man.
why are you buying one btw ? that was the question.
what tracks have you done in your GT3 also, that's would be interesting to know.

Perhaps this thread should be renamed
Mr Demon trolls GT3, PDK and now 981 Spyder
Your post on the GTS is the latest in a long line of gaffes, inaccurate, misleading and contradictory statements. Also known as the Thicko of the forums, everyone is aware of your recent change of username in a laughable attempt to disguise your aggressive trolling history. Falling well short of being even the dumbest of buttons in the box, if not instantly recognised by his trolling, he may be spotted by his laughably dire spelling of words such as 'know one', 'breaks', 'bale' and 'root'. Despite being recommended to keep a dictionary at hand to be studied regularly during his many much needed breaks in his high flying job as parts assistant at the Peugeot dealer, he has clearly shunned this much needed advice.
You wonder (or is it wander? lol) why people mock you when you claim a 330 bhp GTS has the same performance as a 370 bhp Spyder? And in the next breath you claim an almost identical 380 bhp GT4 has the performance of a c500 bhp 991 GT3.....
So effectively this is tantamount to claiming a GTS has the same performance as a 991 GT3.......top comedy indeed!!
You have the infamous accolade of having the highest number of 'do not feed the troll' responses on 911 and GT3 threads.
Your contradictory and inaccurate postings concerning 'autos' are laughable. As everyone knows, you have repeated your wet dream desires for the 458 'auto' on numerous occasions as being your ultimate car you would ' have in a heartbeat'......fair enough.but do you not realise this car IS NOT A MANUAL......and despite constant trolling of 911 GT3s and PDKs for being a 'detached driving experience' you keep banging on about how great and involving this true drivers car is....
You may gain some respectability if you ceased posting tosh about the cars you think you have driven but clearly haven t. The 911 GTS is a case in point. I have owned a GTS and traded numerous others both manual and PDK for around 4 years now and rate them highly. I would not consider posting about cars I have no experience of, eg your all thing to all men noddy 987 Spyder.
Anyway, to get the thread back on track, I think the Spyder could well trump the GT4 (and I am getting both cars so have no ulterior motive in talking one up against the other, unlike some...
) for a number of reasons not least because it has no pretensions of being a GT car unlike the GT4....and both cars have a very similar output. Whilst the GT4 apart from some GT3 bits on the front in an attempt to make it steer properly...is not really a GT Porsche at all....boggo Carrera S engine, largely standard rear suspension and inappropriate gear ratios to name just a few flaws.

Have you driven a 981 Spyder? No.
Have you tried the new roof? No (which looks like an improvement - not hard, over the 987 Spyder roof).
Wait for the back to back tests and driving one yourself to pass your judgement.
only my views, I have reserves about the GT4 of which I am getting it's no secret. I have said these long ratios and electric steering don't sound great, both also affect the 981 Spyder, but I did not want to bring long ratio's into it although again another issue
it seems AV185 is just buying to move on at profit , as one minute he is NO GT4 then only GT4 if PDK now GT4 again, and SPyder but he is all PDK and both are manual.

t that's my view on it.AS the car is going modern it would have great to see it with PDK and electric trick roof like the R8, as atm it's not saving weight and now you cannot remove it.
I see no one is posting why they are buying, so must be all speculators sales or failed GT4 slots, until some does post up why they are buying one.

well you did not fancy one and went V6 Exige :-) I know many who have taken their names off the waiting list, now need to find a real owner and reasons for wanting it.Just a thought....
Lets quote some posts from PCGB from 2 current Spyder owners on the new car ie target market.
" I for one was offered a 981 spyder but declined because the better, nicer looking car already exsists!and looking at the roof makes me wonder about how much effort has been put into the rest of the car!"
"It makes me uncomfortable to say it, but I think Demon sums it up. I was quite excited at seeing the new car but now the details of it have been revealed it does seem to have been badly thought through. "
