small electrical fire, - FIRE !
Discussion
Drove the S just one mile on Sunday.
Noticed a glow under the steering column, stopped at Girlfriend's and found I had a wire in my hand.
It appears the crimp connection on the main (red) feed to the ignition switch had failed and was glowing like a bulb. I had noticed that the volts had dropped and the wipers hardly moved.
Anyway borrowed a soldering iron from GF's brother and cut out the burnt bit and soldered the red wire directly to the ignition switch tag. (I had a few years ago done some of the others when they failed). Volts returned and wipers faster.
You guys may wish to inspect the condition of the wires to your ignition switch.
