My Chim has just developed a shunting problem ??

My Chim has been well maintained and looked after including by me. It has run perfectly well for the last 3 years apart from a duff battery and dodgy airflow meter connection both sometime ago.

However a couple of weeks back during a day out it coughed once on light load and has been fine since.

Over the last week the car now develops a shunting at around 2000 revs under light load. I reset the ECU and all is well again until after about 10 miles and back it comes again.
Other symptoms are that when coasting to traffic lights/junctions the revs almost die to nothing then recover only to die again eventually if I stay stationary for a minute or two it settles at normal 900 rpm. When I take off the shunting then returns at light loads at about 2000 rpm.

What are the members thoughts on this then ? Dodgy MAF or Stepper or what ?

Check the stepper and look for airleak after the AFM.

Do you have rover gauge?

Had this for 3 Years
Swapped the AFM for a spare a lot better
Then the tick over went tits up swapped the stepper and all is good it is now behaving how it should

Both parts are 2nd hand original parts not sty chinky jobs

Ps where did you get your afm plug from

Cheers Peter I suspect maybe vacuum leak or water in an electrical connector on maf or stepper. Will have fettle and see.

MAF plug is a junior power timer connector. Available from AES.

Make sure king lead is firmly pressed into the coil. Had the same symptoms and this was the cause.
