avon park drag strip

Near, it's an old airstrip at Long Marston, Warwickshire.
"Bulldog Bash" there this weekend I think ~(www.bulldogbash.com/) they'll have directions on the site.

Used to live about 2 miles away - still go there a fair bit for 'run what you brung'. It's actually a good strip, and the airfield is only used by small private planes & microlites.
Entry road is a bit pot-holed, but the strip is immaculate.

They have 14 events listed for drag racing at the Shakespeare county raceway in 2002 - it is a small facility at the old Long Marston airfield but as said previously the strip looks in good nick, ok the entry road to the site is pitted and the old wooden stands are run down but my on first visit in May I had a great time.
That meeting was classic american nationals and there was gorgeous machinery both in the car park and on the strip, with old Dodge Chargers, Cadillacs and the like, plus a rung what you brung session with all sorts including hot rods, a transit with an massive engine where the load would normally be, and a lovely Griffith 500 with a rear light conversion which looked great.
The Bulldog Bash is this weekend, so it's bike heaven, tho' sadly it's kind of damp. I think, like a lot of places, they struggle against local noise/traffic disruption opposition plus that numpty i don't want anyone within a 10 mile radius of me to have or be seen/heard to be having fun ever attitude but we must fight back!!
The web site is www.SHAKESPEARECOUNTYRACEWAY.com. And no I have no connection with them. Long live fun!!
