Hi folks,
Does anyone have, or know where I can get my mits on one. I need the whole assembly, but not the wiper arm etc, just the black box. I obviously don't want to go down the second mortgage new / oe route as the car has so far managed to only cost me £150 plus several skinned knuckles and bumped heads etc..

It literally is the LAST thing I need to do apart from vosa/mot checks before it becomes road legal, and therefore trackday ready

It did work, but in doing my pre flight checks noticed it didn't work, so took the bugger apart to find it was full of water and the motor jammed solid. Not even a booster pack and some loose wires could shift it. .....Good sparks though.

Oh yes, cheap as possible as my wife is beginning to chew my head off.

Thanks in advance folks,
Mike the frustrated.

There are usually early style ones like you require on ebay - worth a try.

Have you booked on to any PCGB days yet, Mike?

They've got some Saturday ones at Combe - avoids the need to take the day off, although I bet in your case you'll need to arrange shifts to attend anyway?

If you're going I'll see you there...

Why not remove it! Neither my LHD 944 or my 968 CS have one and don't seem any the worse for it

Think of all that weight saved on track days!!

Do you actually need a rear wiper for MOT checks - i have a cab so no rear wiper?

Could just leave it off and put a grommet in the remaining hole?

What he said. Rip the bloody lot out. It's a track toy, make it lightweight.

Will be using it for day to day running as well so I think it will be needed.
James, did you shove a grommet or something into it. I suppose I could do without it...........

Just checked with Dave who is an MOT tester, Not needed for MOT therefore it's grommet time.

That's the spirit. Remember to sell the bits you rip out on EBAY if they are usable.

Mike

You really don't need it I promoise. Yes there is a black rubber grommet which fits the hole. You could be ask a breaker such as Douglas Valley or Porsche-apart of just gob it up with a bit of bathroom sealant

In terms of weight saving the interior of a 944 weighs close to 5 tonnes - its made out of the same stuff as black holes. Even just taking out the rear seat, which takes about 1 minute takes something like 30 kgs out (or is is lbs) makes a difference and is often done on track days.

My confirmations have come through. I'm at the first Saturday date at Combe at the end of March. (26th) Woohoo!

Any other Porsche PHers going?

I haven't forgotten I owe Daz a tour of a circuit one day when it doesn't actually RAIN!

BTW, if you really want one you can have mine. However, the big white cog is stripped so if you feel you can salvage the one out of yours and use the rest of mine then you can have it for free. I've been meaning to remove it for ages and this will give me an incentive.

Mark

You too.

Hope you're not in a massive hurry because I don't want to take it off in the dark

BTW, someone on the titanic list has the same problem so I've asked if anyone knows where you can get a cog so I'll let you know if anything comes of that. It did occur to me to take the cog out and cut more of the wheel away and then refil with resin or something and then profile the cog. No idea if it would work and never bothered to try.

I'll get the thing off and get it off to you as soon as I get the opportunity.

Regards,

Mark

If you want to keep it lightweight, try RainX on the rear hatch - you won't need a wiper as the rain will just bead off really quickly.
