Hi I'm after some advice for a real novice when it comes to kit cars. I've always been into my audis inparticular s/rs4's

However I've always wanted to try a kit car. I'm looking at ready made or partially completed kit cars however a bit confused by all the models what's up to date and what to avoid etc. any advice is welcome??

My budget is around £4k but could push it slightly for the right car. The locost in Buxton in the classifieds looks a nice buy and also a tiger super 6 on eBay. Any thoughts on either

Just make sure the v5 is correct I.e.describes the car, something like tiger or replica, if it says another kit car (dutton being the favourite) or the donor then walk away.

As Ugg says check that it is correctly registered with the name on the V5 matching the car as accurately as possible.

If you get a car that has been through the SVA or IVA test then you know that the initial build at least was done to a satisfactory standard.

After that it's just like buying any other car. Check everything thoroughly. Drive the car if possible. All the usual things.

What are you looking for from the car. Sevenesque I guess from the Locost and Tigers you mention. Track, road or a bit of both? Blatting or cruising? Have you been on locostbuilders.co.uk? Lots of kit knowledge over there.

The Locost (MK chassis) looks quite a nice one. Nice cross flow motor but won't be ballistic.

Caterhams have to be top of the quality list followed by Westfields, then RawStrikers/MNR Vortex/MK Indy/Mac#1/Tiger/etc, and bottom of the pile being RobinHoods (though not GBS Zero). Locosts can fit in anywhere depending on the build quality, which can apply to any of the list. Then there's also the full bodied cars like Fury/Pheonix/Stylus that handle just as well but have better aero and more comfort.
