Guys , as per the above section , when I click on "My mates", is that people who follow me ? In which case apologies as I've just deleted you !) or people that I'm following ( in which case I've follows people by accident somehow !)

Nah mate - I posted something the same not that long ago and was kindly informed that it was down to me to add people.

Click on my, or anyone's, name and look to the right of the page - there will be an 'add to mates list' or something similar.

Cheers .My son was scrolling and asked what it was , and when I looked I had names on there I'd never heard of, must have accidentally swiped over the course of 16 years or so!
So moving on, what happens is someone makes you a mate?!!

No idea - nothing I think other than being able to see if they're on-line.
