Hi all,
I have done most all of my site using Dreaweaver, problem is I would like to keep the Navbar and Header the same on everypage so it doesnt have to keep reloading etc
Any tips on this?
And anyone got any easy Navbar software they want to share
I currently update mine using a limited Webstyle package which is a nightmare as it doent remember my last saves?

Use frames. Have your navbar loaded into a top frame and then everytime you click on an option is loads the option into the mainframe below. Just link to the right frame using the button preferences section for the button. Choosing the right html page to load and named frame.
Is that what you're after?

Have to say that this is probably an argument for the use of frames but is shouldn't take that long anyway as if yer using graphics they should have already been downloaded by the browser.
I'm sure if you've got an example of the code or link to the page somebody may be able to shed some light.

Hi BB,
If you post what you have already and we'll tell you what will work best.
Right heres a page I have playing with but far from finished. www.ballisticbanana.co.uk/TESTER1247am.htm
I am allright with the left frame(navbar) and Main content which neds playing with a bit as linking pages will require re-sizing possible.
But the RE the header frame. I dont want to have to put a background in there as I have a banner that would fit that space unlike the one there now.
In that Frame(page) I cant get the header to fit right at the top of the page?? to fill that Frame.
Also when looking at it in the Dreamweaver Window I have to put so i can only see the bottom half of the Header/banner to get in the web window correctly
I am allright using the Dreamweaver Menus etc thanks Plotloss
well I think I am

Ok so you're already using Frames. If you don't want the image in the frame in the top section then remove the reference to it
[body text="#000000" background="../New%20RSE.JPG" bgcolor="#999999"]
To show a background in the top Frame with stuff over the top of it you could use a Table and set the image to 100%, the prob is that is will get re-sized/skewed depending on people browsers. Also set the Valign of the TD tage to "top" would top align the image
As for the NavBar you could do something similar to the Ted calendar thing using CSS that was on here recently.
Hope that's of some help?

I don't know php but I guess that's doing the same thing as hardcoding the same html on every page???
but this is how I avoid copying the same code for navigation into every single page. It's also handy adapting the navigation to a bunch of static pages in one go. Just like frames, without the frames. Use CSS to format the position of the navbar centrally too.Bear in mind also that if you use frames it means that when people find your site through a search engine, if they don't come into the index page, they wont see the frameset, only the page that matched their search.
It's for this reason I stopped using frames altogether on any sites I design.

Yep totally agree, you do of course need a php or asp enabled server first tho. The main benefit being that if you decide you don't like it you change it in one place and evrything else picks it up. Likewise using CSS classes, you can alter the class attribs and everything picks it up.
Another problem guys/gals.
Last night my pc frooze while working in DW. I was just inserting a table from the objects panel.
anyhow had to restart the pc and it trucated(sp?) the table selection in the objects pop up.
Anyone know how I can get this back. couldnt find anything on Macromedia pages and exchange didnt have it either.
I know I can write the tables in but prefer the quick way(well for me anyway)
TIA
