Is there a “proper” GT championship in Germany anymore (i.e. not the DTM)? Didn’t there used to be the ADAC Series or something which had 962’s and other prototypes running in it? Is there anything like that going anymore?

Yes, there is. It's mostly the older GT stuff though -like Vipers, etc.
If you take a look over at www.racecarsdirect.com there was a drive available in the 2005 German GT champs in an Ultima. They reckon the cost for a full season is about the same as 3 races in the FIA GT. I assume the Nurburgring 24hr is the highlight of their series.
Haven't got a clue what the website is for it, although it's probably organsied by ADAC, if it helps.

You may be thinking of the VLN. This is a modified road car endurance series based on the complete Nurburgring (i.e. the Grand Prix track and historic Nordschleife joined up together). Cars are anything from a 90bhp Mini to a 600bhp GT2.

They are 3.5 - 6 hour races, 10 per year. A bit like a mega version of Britcar, but with some faster - and slower - cars. There are about 150 cars in each race, and separately there is a 24hr race in May, which admits 210 cars.

There will be a proper German GT Championship this year for the first time for quite a few years, which will race on 'normal' circuits. The VLN will continue, of course, but it only races at the 'Ring and the anything goes format throws touring cars in with all the GTs etc.

Don't know what the new GT Championship's website is though.

Thanks for the feedback folks. VLN looks interesting but nothing quite on the lines of the Birtish GT’s or Belcar yet then
