Garmin Edge 510 and Shimano D Fly wireless - no display info

only just got around to fitting the d fly wireless unit to my foil.

At first the edge 510 would not even pair it, but after a download of the shimano e tube software, and the subsequent update of all,the Di2 components it recognised it straight away.

However now that it is paired and connected I can't see any info related to the Di2 units on my edge 510.

Anyone had any experience of this at all, I wondered if I have not configured something on the actual edge 510 unit?

I have updated the edge software to the latest using garmin connect too.

I've never used a 510 but on my 810 you have to configure a screen to show the data, there should be a "gears" option in the data fields menu.

If you only have a few data fields you get a graphical display, if you have more data you just get a 1/2 8/11 numbers sort of thing. Most useful by far is the battery level indicator - not that it ever really goes flat, but its re-assuring to know what you have left.

It seems by the lack of other responses that not too many people are using the 510, so perhaps that's the problem.

I did post on the Garmin forum, and got much the same feedback as you have given, is add more data fields, which I have done.

However it seems that all I can add on the 510 are additional pre configured screens that garmin have already provided.

I have not been able to add the gear position " field " though nor the " battery " field either, and the pre defined screens don't have anything that has those fields on them.

Perhaps I need to do a deep dive on the manual!

I dug out my 510 as I have a draw full of bike GPS.

I was running software version 2.9ish as hadnt had any need to update but thought i'd see if I could help out. I updated to latest S/ware (v3.50) 1st then....

- Select the settings icon (the tools)
- Select activity profiles
- Select your chosen profile (most people just use Race)
- Select training pages
- Select one of the pages (either one you currently use or a new one)
- Ensure the slider at the top is Enabled
- Select the number of data fields you wish to display and then select the tick
- Touch one of the data fields and it will bring up a list of data field categories which you can choose
- Scroll down using the down arrow
- Select the 'Gears' category
- The options available include Di2 Battery Level, Front Gear, Gear Ratio, Gears (displays front and rear), Rear Gear
- Select the data field you wish to display
- Change any additional data fields on the screen
- Select the tick to finish

In case you are completely new to the 510....

To use the 510 select Ride from the main menu then hit the start button and away you go.
Once you have selected ride you can scroll between any of the pages you have activated (you can have many activated) by swiping across the screen or tapping it and then using the arrows which appear.

I havnt really explained anything different from the other poster but have just laid it out step by step in case you havnt explored your 510 much.

However - I was running software 2.9ish and the 'gears' option was not available in the data fields categories (it's a very new option which came out in the latest s/ware release). I synced and upgraded to software version 3.50 and once the unit had powered up and reinstalled the software the 'Gears' option was available.

My guess is you either didnt complete the software update correctly or are still not running the latest version (can be checked by selecting settings, system, about).

Worked easily enough for me so hope you get it sorted - just a shame i dont have any Di2 !

In terms of the D Fly so you just disconnect the rear mech wire, connect it to the box on the rear stay, then run a new cable into the mech?

I know my G1000 will work, just hadn't got round to looking at this yet. Does it cane the GPS battery?

On another note can you connect the G1000 charge point to the DI2 charge point and power the Garnin off the Di2?

Just wanted to say thanks so much for this, it really has made my life easy.

As I said all of the devices I had were at the latest version of software and firmware so that was not the problem.

Turns out all I was missing was to turn on the data fields as you described above.

So it's all done now thanks to your help, and I have been for a quick 10 mile ride today, and it's all working ass it should be!

1 - Yes
2 - Not that i've noticed
3 - I'm not sure - if you could you would have to make the lead as the Shimano connector isn't standard, plus i'd much rather have a flat GPS than a charged one and no gears.
