I am an audio numpty and was about to but 4 x Bose outdoor speakers to connect to 1 Sonos Connect:AMP. I automatically went for Bose (151) as my perception was that they were good quality. Anyway, lucky I googled first as those speakers are 4 ohms and I apparently need 8 ohms in order to connect 4 speakers to 1 Sonos amp

So, can anyone recommend me decent quality outdoor speakers that are 8ohm please?

Does anyone know about "Monitor Audio" as a brand?

Richer Sounds are selling Monitor Audio Climate 80s that seem to fit the bill, but I can only find one review (which was very favourable)

Have you bought the sonos yet? It might be better to order a connect then a standard Hi-Fi (or even AV) amp which would give you more options? There are 100's on eBay you could choose from.

Good point, I have a fair bit of Sonos already, both standard connect and connect:amp so could use either.

Thanks - I hadn't even thought of that.

Also, with a connect you could use active speakers, removing the need for an amp altogether. You'd just need an additional power cable run alongside the signal cable

This is what I did - a Linn hi fi amp powering outdoor speakers.... sounds very good as it happens.

Been looking at other options with the suggestion of using a Connect and a separate amp, however I have stumbled across Bower & Wilkins AM-1 speakers which reviews state have better bass than the Bose and they're 8ohms as well so 4 will fit straight into a Connect:AMP, happy days.

A Sonos Connect Amp is only rated at 50w. You generally have to drive outdoor speakers harder than if they were indoors, I have a Connect Amp powering a pair of Monitor Audio Climate 50s on my roof terrace which I'm happy with but I think the Amp would struggle powering 4 of them without shutting itself down if you cranked the volume up.

OK, the speakers say they need an amp between 20 - 100w and as you say the Connect:AMP is 50w, so in my layman's thoughts, I was banking on that being ok. Maybe I am back to getting a separate amp after all!

How to you rate the Monitor Climates? I was looking at those at Richard Sounds as an option.

I chose the Climates because they have the passive radiator on the back to add some extra bass that outdoor speakers always seem to lack. The pair of 50's on my London Victorian Terrace house sized roof terrace is more than enough. A pair of 80's and one Connect Amp would go loud enough to rock a pretty big area.

I also considered a Connect with an additional stereo amp but then you have to turn that amp on and off manually (like an animal), my other half objected. The neatness and simplicity of use if you keep everything Sonos is a winner, even though it gets expensive.

You could try the 4 speakers connected to one Connect Amp and if it works that's great, if it keeps going into thermal protect trying to drive all 4 you could add another Connect Amp and pair them as one Zone powering 2 speakers each but that's even more expense.
