I have a large Clark machine polisher that I have used with good success over the years... However, its always a messy job with paste going everywhere....

Are the DA polishers any better in this respect?

Also, I find it awkward to use as its so big, and difficult on bumpers and small areas. are the DA machines smaller?

DA machines are probably smaller than what you have.

Regardless you shouldn't have 'paste' going everywhere.. usually you just use a few small dots on the pad.

You can also get smaller backing plates & pads for small areas.

is all you need.

Are you saying there is something wrong with my technique? I hear that all the time from my wife tongue out

looks like its quite a bit smaller... I am going to invest in one...

Lots of people buy the DAS Pro machine for about £100 or the Rupes thing, which is more but comes with lots of bits.

Look on DW, I think clean your car were doing a prolonged group buy on the DAS one, either way there is a thread of discount codes in the general detailing bit, so should save you a few quid.

Well... I bought a DA machine and some Poorboys polish... (SSR2 and SSR2.5)

Its a revelation compared to the big rotary I currently have. No mess at all... not sure yet how much that is to do with the polish or the machine. I was using FARECLA before which dries powdery and seemed to go everywhere...

The DA machine is MUCH easier to use

I will post up some pictures later!

Agree, plus if using those micro fibre pads that are ideal for a once all over polish, they need cleaning regularly, with a brush or air hose prevent them clogging up & maybe creating secondary swirls from the pad.

If there's polish going everywhere then you're using too much and/or your technique is wrong. 3 or 4 small dollops onto the pad, dab it on to the area to be polished a couple of times, then start on a slow speed with the pad pressed on to the paint.
