This is driving me up the wall - the electro handbrake will not deactivate unless I have my seatbelt on.

I tend to swap my cars around on the drive quite a bit on a weekend and not being able to move the car a few feet without fully belting up, drives me nuts!

1st world problem, but come on Audi - I'm a big boy...let me deactivate the handbrake myself.

It's probably worth a big bonus on their Euro NCAP rating, or something silly like that.

Put your foot on the brake and then flick the hand brake switch, it'll then release when you've not got your seatbelt on. I personally don't find it a problem, I think it works well.

I'll try that one. Did a Google search before I moaned, but yours is the first suggestion I've seen.

This works on the MK7 Golf.

I use that technique a lot to set off a couple of seconds quicker to get out of the work car park before the queue starts!

I would say the most annoying thing is the Sat Nav. You can't put the full postcode in for a start and while the 3D looks impressive, but it is useless specially while you are relying on it to navigate through a city!!

Weird, I used to move heaps of VAG stuff around a yard (including many an Audi) and have never noticed this. I guess I must have been putting my foot on the brake out of habit without really thinking about it.

Is this a manual you're talking about?

My auto doesn't do this, but then you can't put it in gear without your foot on the brake anyway.

Also, if you just pull away without flicking the switch, the handbrake automatically disengages.

Not sure if it's meant to do this, or if it causes any damage, but when I forgot it was on and pulled away, it worked.

The handbrake will auto release when driving away if your seatbelt is on. As suggested, manually releasing the brake just means putting your foot on the brake and press the button

The seatbelt interlock can be removed with vcds - just a coding change but not recommended if you carry kids or dogs
That might lean on the handbrake button!

The later versions do. My S3 is the 5 digit, other halfs Q5 is full postcode.

Hate the things in any case , but yes no seat belt just put pressure on foot brake and it will disengage

Pulling away with seatbelt on it auto disengages but is very Slow, I pull away with the brakes partially engaged all the time , but I don't care it's leased and when returned any excessive wear will be some else's problem not mine. Most likely clutch , brakes and the brake servos as I do use parking/hand brakes all the time

The one in the wife's Evoque is a nuisance, takes to long to disengage. Can be quite embarrassing when attempting a hill start. Also it automatically engages when you switch off the ignition so I'm expecting my car to roll off down the hill after the wife's been in it as mine doesn't auto engage!

If you're getting in and out loads and just moving cars around the drive just leave it plugged in and sit on top of it?
