As per the title, has anybody on here invested in Whiskey. I've heard of people buying a full cask, and laying it up for years. So has anyone done it, and what sort of returns can be expected?

I think it would be easier to just buy some Diageo shares.

This ^^^^^^

I looked at investing in wine and decided that a much better proposition is to make money in a more straightforward way, and buy wine to enjoy drinking out of the profits.

I have a friend who bought two casks approx 15 years ago - he has just had the first bottled. I am not sure it is a great investment but the cost to him was very cheap compared to the cost of the same whisky now. He had given a few bottles away (including to me!) but i imagine selling would be tricky. He tells me the cost of the cask has gone up now by approx 300% as it has become a vanity purchase (you can design your own label etc) and so there is very little in it any more.

There's a thread in the food and drink section where some PHers have gone in on casks. I don't think it is being done as an investment though...

It's not, but I'll release one of my bottles for £1000.
