VW T25 Diesel Engine Upgrade

Hey folks,

I am Ryan a VW T25 owner from Malta. My van van is a 1985, panel van with a water cooled 1.6Diesel engine and a 4 speed gearbox.

I wish to make my van go faster by either changing the engine or upgrade the gearbox to a 5 speed gearbox.

My question is :

1. Will a Porsche 9024 5 speed gearbox fit in my van ? As I happened to have an extra Porsche 924 gearbox
2. What Golf engine bigger than mine would fit no issues ?

You can turbocharge this engine quite easily. You need to find a cylinder head with inlet and exhaust manifolds and turbo from a Mk2 Golf GTD or Mk3 Passat 1.6td. The relevant engine codes are SB or, I think, RA.

The bottom ends and compression ratios are the same on these engines between non turbo and turbo diesels.
