I'm sadly not actually going to the race, happen to be passing Le Mans to go south at the same time. On the Saturday, how bad is traffic on the A28 or the A11/E50, which are the roads that lead towards Le Mans and around it. (Not the ringroad a little closer in).

Am I going to be sat in traffic for an hour to get from north of Le Mans to south of Le Mans?

When the circuit is in action traffic is diverted for Tours, off the ring road in the Saumur Angers direction. This route takes you past the Toyota garage to the big roundabout with the Yoplait water tower, then south through the industrial area down to Arnarge. Normally this is very busy.
At the moment there is ongoing roadworks around the roundabout and currently delays at busy periods (most of the day).
basically they have taken two lanes ,out of the road in the centre and created bus lanes similar layout to the tramlines.
Bus will go straight across the roundabout with traffic lights controlling the other traffic so the flow for cars etc is severely affected.
At the moment I'm avoiding that route during normal working hours and I will avoid it all the race week.
The disruption starts as you come off the ring road, where you could merge its now practically a stop which backs up onto the ring road there's cones everywhere and mini roundabouts that keep moving.

Best avoided

Stick on the A28 and you will be OK, don't be tempted to pop into town to see what's going on.

I was struggling to understand where that was, not remembering the roadside landmarks you mention and the map being so different to how it was.

You can use the southern ring road to get in and out to the circuit but no good if you are going into town

Apologies for the location description but you can imagine what it's like.
The roundabout in question is called La Patte d' Oie d' Allonnes. I didn't think it would help to say "goose foot roundabout "

From the circuit (south) do not travel clockwise on the inner ring road and don't head into town from Arnage on the D147S which will probably make the other routes into town even busier.

Thanks for the info smile
