People will always call them hairdresser cars.

I was getting a hair cut the other week and was chatting to the hairdresser. It turned out she had an almost identical TT to mine, just with a slightly more manly interior (all black, mine is two tone black and red).

So yes. Yes they are.

Tend to agree,I certainly see far more women driving them than men! My (ex) missus is on her third both gen 1&2 and can't say I was a fan, just wasn't a drivers car.
No experience of the latest model though.

Why would you worry? If you like it, get it!

My wife has a 2013 white TT Roadster 2.0 TFSI Black Edition and yes we live in Essex! She loves it especially when there is some sun about!

I saw a guy on the M25 last Thursday night in a brand new TT coupe in a mid to dark metallic grey and it did look rather nice, he must have just picked it up as the exhaust tips were still factory clean and the inside of the wheels were still factory clean.

If you like it don't worry about what anyone else says, it's what works for you and what you enjoy driving that matters.

It's a small, reasonably light coupe with decent dynamics and an engine to suit just about every/taste budget. They look good, have class leading interiors, excellent residual values and are even reasonably practical.

Buy the right specification and they're a giggle to drive too.

Ignore the opinions of unimaginative sheep and buy the car you like on merit and that alone.

I had a mk2 3.2 V6 for 2 years and absolutely loved it. interiors are great, they look good and the V6 sounded good too.

car is pretty practical (just dont expect to use all for seats), the boot is plenty big enough, can even fold down the back seats, I had bikes and skiing stuff in the back of mine. even had roof bars and used to carry a canoe on the roof.

when people talk about the handling etc.... have a think of how many journeys your actually gonna notice this on. i reckon less than 1% of my journeys were just fun driving journeys. the car handles pretty well in most real world situations, plenty speed for over taking etc...

if you like it, go for it.

It probably is but I bet the guys at work would give their right arm for one, just jealousy

I just parked in a car park where a 64 plate white one was parked sort of all on it's own .

Now do remember I am not an Audi acolyte and known Audi detractor .

It looks ok , not a sports car, much more of a GT car and to some extent a push me, pull me sort of design. A bit of a jelly mould .

I would think to some extent this is a result of the compromise dictated by the use of a predominantly front wheel drive platform with a transverse engine layout giving a bulberous front end required to cover the engine and radiator.

This is the problem with a car basically derived from the parts bin and not designed from day one as a sports car it becomes some what compromised in looks and for me doesn't quite cut the mustard for either a GTI or a true sports car . So why not just buy the Golf or A3 which I believe is based on the same platform with very similar performance. I do see where VAG are coming from , the expense of developing a true low volume. Sports car is high , I doubt Honda made penny from the S2000 , Mazda do a bit from the MX5 and maybe Nissan from the 370Z , and of course the BMW Z cars and MB SLK but these all are RWD purpose made sports car chassis to a greater or lesser extent and maybe do not really compete with a TT which has and will continue with it's own following .

Never driven one so no comment as to how it drives , just had a bog standard A3 loan car which I found far more pleasing to drive than my A4 , although still somewhat lacking feel and character. And why do VAG insist on hiding some very important controls on the dash ! , at least the MMI screen can be got rid off with one. Simple button touch .

Unfortunately, yes. - I say "unfortunately" because some of the ingredients are right but it's ultimately let down by it's underpinnings. It would be nice to have a proper AWD rival for the Boxster etc.

Clive's , you have hit the nail on the head , it's a compromise for economic. Reasons , yes a Boxster , Cayman rival it is not , but could be , but given that Porkers come from The same stable , I think there you have the problem.

Actually, I've previously thought "if only they'd base it on the Cayman" but immediately realised it'd probably be too similar and would alienate certain types of non-car enthusiast buyers - i.e. the majority. I like the styling of the new 8S model but the underpinnings & setup, to me, are like someone making a really nice fry-up, then pouring baked beans (I can't stand the sauce) over the lot.

A shortened MLB platform (A4/5) would enable them to use Torsen AWD (with a genuine rear bias before slip) and a longitudinally-mounted engine but again, they're aiming at people who want a car that merely looks "sporty"... frown

Please take this in the way it's intended, you currently drive an A3 convertible and are worried a TT is a hair dressers car!!

Sod em is what I say, when I was 25/26/27 I was selling Mazdas and had loads of MX5's as company cars out of choice, mates took the piss then I let them drive them and they got it. Who cares, if you enjoy it buy it, just not in pink!

I bet a low powered current MX5 would be a far better drivers car albeit slower in terms of outright speed .

But for sheer driving pleasure and handling it would be a far better choice , if indeed one wants a sports car .

I'd be surprised that Mazda only 'makes a bit' with the MX5.

Given that it's the world's best selling 2-seat roadster and they've sold over 1,000,000 cars, I'd estimate that they make more on the MX5 than the rest of the range put together.

As for the TT. We had a MKI 225 Coupe - and I got 'hairdresser' comments from people about that. It made no odds to me. Ask yourself who you are buying the car for. Other people or yourself?

Is this thread serious?

I've never known a car to inspire so many individuals that have never driven it and have such little knowledge about it to believe that they know so much about it and feel so compelled to announce how bad they feel it is because a mate told them it was crap or they read it somewhere else on a forum.

Curious.......

For someone complaining about assumptions, you're making quite a few of your own...
