Going to get a new set of tyres on my Cerbera , the car has 18" wheels fitted, what tyres do you all use?
The car will only be used on the road, so therefore a road based tyre required.
Would like a tyre which helps the cars stability.
Also what size tyres work best?

There are 12,000 threads on this already, Matt

BUT

I have Spiders on my '01 4.5 which are 8.5J

I use standard size Toyo Proxes so 225/35 Front 255/35 Rear.

I Love 'em. They're quiet, hold well in the rain, very progressive in the dry and last for years.

Hate to differ but I have tried Toyo Proxes and think they are the spawn of Satan. Marginal in the dry and deadly in the wet. I put on a set of Kumho Ecstas (don't laugh) and they utterly outperform the Toyos, wet or dry and a few quid cheaper. 255/35/18 all round on mine without any arch rubbing problems.

I went from (a mixed bag) of Proxes T1R and T1S to Uniroyal's Rainsport3. Vast improvement. Hold up well on the track too.

Personally, I wouldn't go back to T1R or T1S.

This is on a Tamora.

Obviously lack of power from the Tam doesn't generate the warmth a beastly Cerb does to make the Toyos work! biglaugh
Seriously had T1sports then T1R's on the Cerb and they have been spot on wet or dry

Thanks for all the replies on this guys, I'm unsure what rubber to go for still after reading this !
Are we in agreement that the best sizes to use are rears 255/35/18, and fronts 225/35/18 ?

The 17 inch fronts on mine are Good Year Eagle F1.

The size is 235/40 ZR.

Is that the usual size that pepes have on their 17 inch fronts ?

I am told that that size is now a sort of out of date option.....yes they are still available but choices are restricted, hence not so good on price.

Has anyone gone for 235/45 instead ?

Yes, for 18" Spiders 225/35/18 for the front and 255/35/18 for the rear. I found Goodyear Eagle F1's are better than the Toyo's, but that is personal choice.

235/45 won't fit.. Sadly we are stuck with that fitment. I have Conti's up front and will put them out back when the Toyos run out.

Won't fit on the wheel or will hit the chassis / body ?

Anyone tried 225/45 on 17 fronts then if 225 seems to be still wide enough on an 18 wheel ?

Hi,

I've got 225/45 on 17" wheels all round on my '97 4.2 V8, Goodyear F1. This is the same theory as the original speed six, which had 225/50 16" all round. I went this route many years ago after reading about the testing done by prodrive on the Marcos (that subsequently never made it...) which also had 225 wide tyres with more power and no traction problems.

Anyhoo, 225/45 17" fronts seem to fit ok, at least on my car with its aftermarket black wheels. I've been very happy with th F1s as a road tyre and will fit the same again soon.

Just had my new tyres fitted today, went for Goodyear F1's 225/35/18 front and 255/35/18 rear.
Had the 4 wheel alinement checked and adjusted, the front rhs was 4 degrees out.
The car now feels a lot more planted and able to drive without fear of ending up in a ditch !

As I've replaced every other bit of rubber in the Cerb it seems stupid not to replace the bits that contact the road, the Eagle F1s are about 13 years old now (the car has been mainly off the road for the last 5 years)

I liked the old Eagle F1s & have the new version on the old 530i BM & like them too.

But looking on Black Circles they seem to only list the asymmetric for the 225 35 18s & the asymmetric 2 for the the 255 35 18s. I rang black Circles & demon tweeks & they both recommended the Toyo Proxes T1 Sports over the Goodyear Eagle F1s (demon tweeks have the 225 35 18s in asymmetric 2 listed on their web site but the guy on the phone said it's out of date & they can't get them) So I'm not sure which to go for now.

Had 4 225/35/18s delivered this morning for Suni. Uniroyal Rainsport 3 again this time from Camskill's. £91.25 each delivered. Wish I'd bought the 225s from them too now!
