... Just watching the Monte on Eurosport,

I don't care what people say about it not being as good as it used to be, and its just watered down now etc etc...

... They are still fooking heros!

I thought they looked rather slow, in fact checking the fastest stage times they were only averaging low 50s mph over the stages, Solberg averages around 65 on RallyGB. I know they had ice patches to contend with but on the dry stretches they should have beena able to hoof it a bit more. That said, I'm not sure my driver and I could do better although the only data I have to go on is the Great Orme in the rain and fog with oil on the stage where we averaged mid 50s in a 1400 front wheel drive Astra. But I guess that's not a fair comparison due to factors like the length of the stage etc.

It is not a valid comparison to compare different rallies, it is a bit like saying the drivers in the F1 race at Monaco are a bit slow when you caompare it with Imola. Or comparing NASCAR on a 1 mile oval against a 2 mile oval where the average speeds can vary from 100'ish, to 180'ish mph. Same cars and drivers.

Agreed, but I still reckon they looked a bit on the slow side. I suppose another aspect is that once you have a healthy lead, why risk a crash or a mechanical failure by pushing that extra bit harder.
