Mine does 6 or 7 chimes for no reason that anyone can explain - even the dealer.

We also tried 2 other Rapides at the dealer - they do EXACTLY the same - but an S was silent. What is it trying to say?

Dealer has been great and is referring to flying Aston spannerman and HQ but its all very peculiar.

I'd really value some Rapide owners feedback.

Thx

My vantage does this when I've not put my seatbelt on BEFORE I've put the key in and turned the ignition to on (mine is an old turn key not glass one). Try putting your belt on first and try it again, see if that works. Might be that it's a setting which can be turned off, and that's why other cars don't do it.

As above, mine does this until you put your seat belt on. If you don't, it stops after 6/7 chimes.

If you've got the dealer involved, pretty sure you must've tried this though (although see from your dash your belt isn't on!)

It never used to ping like this. I think I'll fasten all 4 seat belts and try it to try. Itd very
annoying and unneeded if it's pinging for seat belts before the car moves!

Agreed, it does my head in. I'm almost sure my 2008 V8V didn't do it as I'm sure I'd have noticed it, but the V12 does. I just assumed it was because my belt wasn't on.

I didn't know this before but definitely seat belt in my MY09 V8V.

Seat belt on before ECU in = no chiming. Thank you for bringing to my attention how to prevent this minor irritation.

My 2006 V8 is the same. I turn the ignition on so it can do the system check while I put the seatbelt on - but it means it does the annoying chime until I do (or until it gets to the count of 6 or 7). If the car had been started, I could understand it - but doing it just because the ignition is on does seem a tad overkill!

It is interesting that some peoples do it and some don't, I wonder therefore whether this is a setting which can be turned off using dealer diagnostics? It would be great if it could be turned off, as it is rather annoying. Sounds like others do what I do which is get in, turn on ignition to allow start up sequence, then put belt on, all the while being pinged at!

Its good to know it doesn't seem to be pinging about something of importance?

Dealer is mentioning it to Aston guru so will update - ESPECIALLY if there is a way to stop it doing it. Feel like I'm in a bl00dy microwave oven factory!

I'm struggling to see why this is such an issue? I generally put the key in and start the car *shrug*

My other cars chime to draw your attention to an issue - today an airbag fault 'BONG' for example. That I get. 7 chimes for no reason (that I understand) leaves me wondering if it is really indicative of something that needs my attention? This especially so due to having been on the back of a lorry a few months ago for an electrical issue...

I too get a ludicrous amounts of bongs, but it's related to the seatbelt not being on. It's very frustrating. I could understand the bongs when the car is moving, but when stationary it's just annoying....

Richard at the dealers got to it for my std Rapide, which is much appreciated as its all about SFA...NOTHING...:

"the chimes are related to the seat belt reminder, you should get 6 chimes with the seat belt not connected. Rapide S has no chimes when stationary. This may have changed over time but we updated the vehicle config file when the TPMS [BERU] module was replaced”

It certainly DID change when they replaced the 2011 TPMS unit after a dodgy electricals issue. I think someone at Aston needs mild shooting mind as the chimes are NOT any mandatory thing about seatbelts (even in USA) so thanks for crying wolf and making an absolutely pointless racket every time I get in to my car. My BM's chime after 20" of no seatbelts when actually MOVING. That's just software that includes common sense...

I forgive her because of her gorgeous hips and am now moving on!
