1 owner Austin Healey 3000 at auction,

Hello everyone, i'm a new member here and would welcome any advice, I am thinking of dipping my toes into the classic car market for the 1st time, ive always loved the 3000 Healeys and ive seen one coming up at Anglia Car auction very soon. I am looking possibly for investment but more as enjoyment and years of wanting to own one !!
They have a few in the sale but I am attracted to the one owner car, there cant be many one owner 3000s for sale ?
It looks to be very original too, another attraction for me, this to me makes it stand out a bit more then the restored cars on the market, there estimate 24-30k , sounds reasonable?
Any tips/advice welcome...

I have a 1961Healey. They are great cars and my reasons for buying one were much the same as your own. The major killer with them is rot so be prepared to do the necessary even if you intend to keep it in the lovely patina it has now. They are a joy to own and drive as long as you keep them meticulously maintained and drive them as much as possible. They don't take well to being stood doing nothing for long periods which is something else to keep in mind with this one. You may have a fair bit of work to recommision it, but it will be worth every busted knuckle when she's flying down the road with the roar of the exhaust deafening you and the wind ripping through your hair! Do it!!
One further thing. When you are recommisioning, be aware that certain Healey "specialists" are happily selling cheap poor quality electrical components that will let you down as I found through bitter experience. You will probably need to replace points, rotor arm, condenser etc. The distributor doctor is your man. Accept no substitute.
Cannot agree more about the electrical items, there were some shocking batches of rotor arms for all classics floating about and lots of us ended up with healeys by the roadside.
If this is not rotten I would be surprised if it sells within the estimate as its got such a lovely patina I am sure there will be a show of hands for it. At the quoted estimate I thought it looked a bargain and I am sure there will be lots of others who think the same. A one owner car is a rare bird nowadays.

Thanks for the replies, I actually took the time out and had a ride up to Norfolk to view the car, the staff are very friendly and accommodating, they let me and a friend have a real good look over the Healey, have to say I was very surprised and pleased with what I saw, its extremely solid, had a couple of out outrigger looking bits done and paintwork over the years, last on the road 2012, starts on the button and sounds great, interior is worn and looks great , i'm away when it goes through so I may leave a commission bid, would rather be there in person incase its lost for 100 quid but that's life, 24-30k estimate, wouldn't surprise me if it has over the 30 grand, there are other Healeys there that have higher estimates but I like this one the most for some reason, has some nice history with it and one owner, hope its in budget ....
Ice metallic blue.....the Best color! Looks a fantastic buy for someone, particularly with that history.
My Dad bought one new in the same color in August 1964 ( FVX 803B where are you now ??? ) and I've been searching for it for many years.
I still have very vivid and find memories of that car.

The prices of classics is high at the moment ,just ask your self would you still be happy with your new car if the price dropped ,if yes then go for it.
I went to a ACA auction recently and I remember noting that commission bids never won, to the extent I mused that the auctioneer might be making them up. My conclusion was that he probably wasn't, because it wasn't necessary; anything decent went for over estimate. They do the estimate low to get the punters sniffing around and it only takes 2 to be keen...... the Classic Car magazines reports from ACA have been that results are consistently good and that most stuff sold and a lot of it over estimate. I saw some right crap go for silly money!

I think that your spot on, I will try and get a phone bid sorted out as I cant get there Saturday, ive only got a limited budget near the top end of estimate so i'm not holding out a lot of hope to be honest , I think it will have 30-33k, maybe a touch more. Think I will start scouring the classifieds now !
This is a great place to off load what your are not happy or stuck with with and want to make a premium - have been to the auction numerous times to buy and the quality is poor and the end prices achieved are ridiculous. Did you see the price of the Sierra Cosworth, that beats bidding on ebay after several large G&T's
