Hi,

Wondered if anybody does the above commute (from Roundhay area to Middlesborough), or can comment on traffic around that time along the A19 or other routes?
Google maps indicates an hour 16 but this will be without any traffic, wondering if the traffic flow isn't too bad an hour and a half is possible as a commute time for the medium term.

Cheers

You haven't mentioned a time.

Northallerton to Middlesbrough is 35 minutes getting in for 8:00.

Traffic is ok.

The A19 is generally fine running up to ' boro. It can back up a bit getting off the A19 and onto the A66, but not excessively so.

The bit that'll take the time is getting out of Leeds I'd wager.

Usual commute times really. So getting there for 8ish, leaving work from about half 4 maybe till half 5.
This will be from Oakwood/Roundhay, from my flat takes around 10-15 mins to the M1 from there so it isn't too bad.
This is for a job my girlfriend is going for but we are unsure whether its too far. The problem is her job area is so specialist they don't come up too often. It will be to the hospital in South Middlesbrough (not sure which one yet)

If you have time, switch traffic on on Google Maps and search the route at the times you will be travelling. Will give you a better idea. Don't do it during the school holidays though!

You can also tell it what time you will be setting off and it will adjust journey times, but not sure if this averages out traffic over a set historical period for that time.

Ah didn't know there was such a feature. I knew it did live traffic to an extent though, will give it a try!

Doing the commute tomorrow setting off at 4.30 from Morley so should be able to see what the return leg is like at least. Another issue is its a 120 mile round journey...

Won't be too bad that, although rather you (her) than me!

I'd be getting on the A58 from Roundhay heading towards Wetherby and pick up the A1 there at J45.

South Tees hospital is the right side of Middlesbrough too so you won't hit the queues for the '66.. Jump in the 174 then 172, although it does queue on the 172 if you're turning into the hospital but there's not much you can do about that.

Yeah it is going to be pretty bad even without traffic. Problem is her career field is so specific not many jobs come up so it's the only option so far unless something else comes up soon.

Thanks for the advice guys.

It's not a bad run, i'd take it over using the M62 any day. I've done it a few times, infact just yesterday to pick a customer car up from the Port. What I want to know is what the farmer is growing in a field to the left of the A19 heading North, it's bright blue!
If/when you're going from Morley you have two options to get on the A1/M1; M62 and go long way round, or head down the M621 and come off at Stourton. Coming back the other way and coming off by Arla foods to get to the M621 is one of Leeds' hidden gem driver roads.
If you can get it to yourself and know how to take the racing line it's a great bit of road, although the positioning of the grate on the entry to the '621 is highly annoying and I note someone got it wrong recently - there's broken fence and bits of car/oil all over the verge....

Haha sounds good, will have to give it a try.

It will be from Oakwood/Roundhay LS8 to Middlesborough TS60SZ I think.

Sounds like it isn't a bad commute then in terms of traffic, only issue now is the £300 diesel per month & 31,000 miles a year on to the car.

Cheers guys

I'd rather commute to Middlesbrough than Morley - but would pile the miles on the motor.

Not much help with the commute apart from thinking it would be horrible in winter, but the blue field might just be `Blue Tansy` http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phacelia_tanacetifoli... - had some near us & it`s very striking. If it`s more of a sky blue it`s probably flax
