Six of us going this year for the first time, in a campervan + 2 motorbikes. Got two pitches booked. My Dad's arriving first at BSJ on Tuesday when there will hopefully be plenty of choice. Could any of you seasoned regulars suggest where on the site he should aim to pitch his tent? We're not party animals so would hopefully be somewhere fairly quiet (if that's possible at BSJ hehe ).

Suggest dad camps where they point him. He does a bit of scouting till the rest of you get there and you move en masse. Plenty of choice usually until Friday night especially in outlying less crowded areas which are much better in my opinion esp if you go east close to Porsche curves viewing bank

Last year nobody pointed us to a specific pitch upon arrival (on the Thursday afternoon).

If you like it quiet I would suggest you go through the entrance, go through the main site and when you get to a gate in the hedge head left. you'll find yourself in the pine forest just before a second field (which is where the showers and toilets are). The area was very peaceful for the whole weekend and you have some cover from the sun if required. Another benefit being that you'll have free reign to make your own pitch if you take a little rope or twine - we had tons of room.

Alternatively, go through main entrance and follow the main track through, turning right and then left. After a bit you'll come to a T junction of tracks, turn right and keep on going. The track then goes into another field which you pass through, bending to the right and past some toilets/shower blocks. You should then be on the edge of yet another field with some more toilets/showers on your left this time (that's if they put them on the same pitches as last year!). Opposite the front of these will be a wood and an obvious entrance. Head into this and choose your pitch, these aren't marked. Plenty of shade and quite relaxing compared to the main BSJ site. What's more, you're only a five minute walk to the spectator banking on the inside of the entrance to the Porsche Curves. HTH.

The main thing in BSJ, or any of the other sites for that matter are:

1. Try to avoid being on the major roads. If it turns out to be hot these turn to dust and you have to dig your car out to drive home.

2. Avoid dips and low points. If it turns out to be wet these can become 'a little moist'.

Thanks chaps. I'll pass on your tips. Camping under trees sounds appealing for the shade if nothing else. I guess trees also would help to slow down the pissed-up racers. wink

Also, BSJ is MASSIVE so don't go too deep into the site in search of a spot, or you can be 10-15 mins walk from the exit and therefore 10-15 minutes walk further from the track.
