Hope someone might be able to assist.

I have a video that is an outdoor shot of someone using a tool, (imagine simply digging a hole in the ground standing on grass)

Along the floor runs a cable (unrelated) that is in shot and looks out of place, it is also shuffling around and very distracting.

In Photoshop you would simply remove using the clone tool.

My question is how do you remove objects in video, what software can do this and is it an easy process?

Thanks.

Going back to my pro video days we'd make a still in PS that covered the fault but with the rest of the area transparent, and put it on the alpha channel to retain transparency. The video would carry on underneath.

Next time get the Director to spot and remove the cable before you shoot wink

In my pro video days I'd have either been faced with an easy job, or anything up to a total pig of a job.

It all depends on what's moving overall, whether anything moves over the object, whether the lighting changes etc.... Easiest case is a simple matte and a patch, worst case is 3d movement hell with a bright pink cable and an afro haired bunch of people running around in front of it.
