Temperature gauge problem

Hi

My temperature gauge jumps straight to maximum as soon as I turn the key on. Any ideas on why this might happen? Do you think it might be and earthing problem? Any idea on how to test this part of the system or any fixes? Any help much appreciated.

I would guess that you have a short to earth somewhere. Disconnect the wire from the sender and make sure the connector isn't touching the block and then key on. If you have no deflection on the gauge, the sender is faulty and if you still have full deflection there is a short to earth in the loom/gauge somewhere.
If I am incorrect no doubt someone will put me straight.

Many thanks for the help. Turned out that the earth wire was disconnected.
