Potential newbie Porsche owner

Hello All

I have been looking for a few weeks at adverts for 996 911 as a weekend drive.There seems to be quite a few around between the £10-15k mark.
I know that there have probably been many posts about potential ownership in the past so I apologise in advance of yet another newbie post but what thoughts does everyone have about 996 in this price bracket...avoid or go for it?
Any advice guidance will be appreciated

My advice would be 100% do it. Go manual, and make sure to have the car inspected by peter morgan its £400 but its money that could save you a lot more down the line if you bought something that turned out the be a clanger underneath. If it says it has a Hartech engine rebuild find out what level or rebuild as they have everything from a basic engine tidy up to a full blown revamp. I would suggest a 4/4S because they look wonderful from behind with the red strip. I think a budget of 10-15K is a solid one for a 996. Don't be too put off by mileage, focus your attention the service history mot and work receipts. You can always post potential adverts on the forum if you fancy others face value opinions on the adds. Good luck!

Carrera 2 is a lovely, light thing as well. Put in Millers CFS 5W/40 oil (as Hartech recommend) every year maximum and enjoy the performance bargain of our time.

Highly recommend Porsche Sports Exhaust.

Go for it, I have had 3 in my time. As per previous replies, get your chosen car checked out and it should be happy days. I would go for C4S. I had one and I loved it.

I would love the C4S but looks like they are all closer to the 20k mark than 15k unless anyone know better.

You could get a 4 instead of a 4S, I know alot of people who prefer the smaller engines. A high mileage 4S would be in budget I would imagine, but then you are probably looking at cars around 100,000miles. Not that its a problem, but my personal cut off would be around 85-90,000. My brother in law just sold his 996 at that was over 105,000 he had only had any real troubles with the tip box. If you want to speak to some 996 owners get their advice and opinions you could always head down to the Porsche day at Beaulieu this Sunday, it will be a huge gathering of Porsche enthusiasts who would be more than happy to show you round their motors. Thanks Gilliambot realistically with my budget it does look like a C4
The show sounds ideal unfortunately wouldn't be able to travel that far at short notice as I am Manchester based but would hope to attend some Northern meets if ther are any.

All engines on 996 Carreras are the same size across the model range - 3.4 for pre-facelift and 3.6 post-facelift.

My mistake I thought it was like the 997. My point still stands though, nothing wrong with the 4.

The interior wouldn't be to my taste, but I guess everybody likes something different.

Can't fault the stealth sub-woofer install though.........

I'd ask about the non-standard exhaust tips. Could've been put on there for the looks of them, although are not to my tastes.

I would be worried about a convertible unless it lived in doors for fear of leaking from age, but I have no experience with soft tops, I would always go for a fixed lid.
