Fiseta zetec s metallic engine noise

My son has a 60 plate fiesta zetec s which has developed a metallic sound seemingly from the top of the engine more obvious when cold . Oil change yesterday didn't make a lot of difference.
Any ideas around this subject?

Is it the 1.6 vct engine?

If so it's reported that changing the intake shaft variable timing pulley solves the rattle. Do a Google search.
