I know it has no pistons but not many people on here don't appreciate it.

Today (Sat 6 June) is the first display of the Vulcan's last ever flying season and it will be leaving Donny (Finningley) Airport some time today to display at Throckmorten before returning to base.

Check their website or twitter for times, or there is an app that may work (Hasn't shown any of the training flights this year) Guestimated time is 3pm as it is usually the finale of any display.

Two weeks ago it flew over chez Abbott!
Wow. What a plane. Just awesome.
Think it was practising above Elvington.

I seriously take it for granted as I live less than a mile from the hangar and often see it. I'll certainly miss it.

If I'd have read this earlier I'd have gone over to watch it take off. Will check the website to see if I can get over some other weekend for a nosey.

Pieces of our history like this need to be seen and appreciated.

Bugger. Dropped the Mrs off at half 5 for a flight. Would have convinced her she needed to be there 5 hours before her flight if I had known.

558 was based at Scampton for some 8 years in the 70s contrary to popular belief that she was always at Waddington. I was in MEAS (Mechanical Engineering Aircraft Squadron) and the engine bay so worked on this Vulcan for some 3 years. It will be the end of an era for me too.

Last week it was over York half a dozen times.

If you get the chance, go do the Vulcan tour, well worth it.
