Would this now be murder?

Interested if the people who did this to this man will now get put on trial for murder?
Assuming his death is a direct result of the attack of course.

Here is a similar case from 2011 where they did go back and charge someone, who was previously convicted of gbh and jailed for it, with murder.

Assuming it's the same as over here (there may be differences), the is no time limit for a murder prosecution. A 'year and a day' was abolished in 1996. If it's more than 3 years between the event and the death, then there's needs to be permission from the Attorney General to prosecute. The same permission is needed if the offenders have been convicted of a lesser offence.

There used to be a stipulation that if the victim lived a year and a day after the attack, it wasn't murder.
I think that was removed a few years ago.
Yup, changed in 1996 under the Law Reform (Year and a Day Rule) Act 1996 due to people being able to live a lot longer now with the assistance of life support. I think that was removed a few years ago.
A similar case here perhaps. Poor family!

A grieving father whose young daughter died on Saturday nine years after a horror road smash left her with catastrophic injuries is demanding the 'scum' motorist responsible now faces a fresh charge of manslaughter.
Cerys Edwards passed away surrounded by her family at Birmingham Children's Hospital on Saturday just weeks before her tenth birthday.
She was left brain damaged and paralysed when a 4x4 driven by Antonio Boparan - the 19-year-old son of a multimillionaire - smashed into her parents' car when he was trying to overtake another vehicle while travelling on the wrong side of the road at 72mph in a 30mph zone.

A multimillionaire's son who left a baby girl paralysed and brain damaged following a horror car crash could be facing fresh charges after a post-mortem revealed he was responsible for causing her death.
Antonio Boparan-Singh, 28, left Cerys Edwards with devastating injuries after he ploughed his Range Rover Sport into the family's Jeep while overtaking at 70mph in a 30mph zone.
Cerys, who had just celebrated her first birthday, was thrown from her baby seat and broke her spine in the crash, leaving her paralysed.
She was unable to speak and required round-the-clock care and was permanently dependent on a ventilator following the crash in November 2006.

"Boparan was jailed again earlier this year for his involvement in a Birmingham bar fight, which left one man blind.
He pleaded guilty to violent disorder and assault in the VIP room of Brindleyplace's Nuvo Bar last April.
He was jailed for 12 months for his involvement in the fight, in which he threw the victim to the floor and kicked him in the head."
He's quite the asset to society isn't he?
