Great bike but forks suck!

I picked up a 2015 SJ 29er EVO with a Rockshox Revelation RC on Wednesday, got a pretty decent deal on it and took it away.
Had a short ride on it in the afternoon but took it round Bedgebury on Saturday morning.
Didnt go any faster or harder than I do on my hardtail but half way round noticed the travel indicator had pretty much bottomed out so I went from the suggested 85psi to 110 on the fork.
A few runs later I looked down and saw the dust seal was half way up the leg, I checked the pressure and it was down to 65psi.
I know stuff like this happens but how fking frustrating! Pay a decent amount for a bike and it fails within 2 hours of purchase - more to the point I now need to do a 2 hour trip to drop it off and wont have it back for up to 2 weeks.
My concern is when they fix it, will it be a fix or repair? Am I going to go out again and blow the bloody thing out again. May enquire how much a spring conversion is as Id rather know it wont fail like the air chamber. Pah, just wheel the hardtail out.....

If under warranty you can get next day service just send the fork off tf or mojo

I managed to find the time to get it to Evans, they can have it for the week. Asked them to look into why the X9 wont shift down quickly with a second or 2 delay. Lets see what they say when I get back.

Probably the crap SRAM cassette it'll have fitted. I swapped the shifters to XTRs (my Camber comp was SLX shifters/ XT mech/ SRAM cassette) and lubed the cables but it's always hanging onto gears. I would change it to an XT cassette but I'm waiting for XT 11 speed...

Don't worry, once you've starting breaking spoke nipples every ride you'll realise the forks and cassette weren't that bad after all...

Sounds like a failed seal in the air chamber inside the stanchion, leaking air out into the lower leg. I know it's frustrating but it could be as small a problem as an o-ring not seated quite correctly.

Back when I has a bit more disposable income, I used to change forks fairly regularly and before putting them on the bike I'd strip down and rebuild them with my choice of oils etc.
Quite surprising how often you'd find only one leg had semi-bath oil, or the air chamber had no oil/grease, or the air valve wasn't screwed in, or the oil in the damper was overfilled... That's Marzocchi, Fox and RS as well, so not even just one crappy manufacturer.

Evans sent the forks off for a rebuild, called them yesterday and they think they will be returned some time this week. Not too much of a problem but hoping the report will show the cause and it not be a "no fault found" send 'em back response. Would be interesting to know where they send them off to..

They will have gone back to Fisher who are the distributor for RS in the UK. Fisher are really good with warranty so even if they don't replace it outright, fear not as they will do a proper repair.

Forks have now been sent to Rockshox, they are hinting at either all new internals or a new pair of forks. I did suggest they could upgrade me to a pair of Pikes but recon the reply would include "off" and "fk" not necessarily in that order... Either way another week waiting for their return which makes it 3 weeks! GRRRR! To be fair Im out all weekend so no great problem.. Also Evans have been pretty good with their service.

I would have been asking for a new bike.

You are a patient man , my fox fork had a problem , had them replaced 2 days they just supplied a new fork ,put some pressure on the bike shop .

Much rather have a rebuilt pair of forks than a new pair, as when my Fox's went wrong on the first ride, I was near Mojo's. Popped in and they stripped and rebuilt while I waited. They did some mods on them too all FOC. Usually with OEM forks, they are sort of thrown together, so a professional rebuild often yields more than banging another set on.

Perhaps In not pushing hard enough,but if it wasn't for the fact they are warranty I would rebuild them myself as I upgraded my old lyrik forks. Thing is I was out of the country l2ast week and this week been too busy working. Hopefully next week it should come back. I said hopefully!

Got the call today that the bike was ready, Rockshox authorised a new pair of forks so whatever it was was bad enough for them to hand out a replacement.

I however now have a set of 2016 RCT3's where the originals were RC3's (and 2015!) so have mission control and another knob to fiddle with (low speed compression). Looking forwards to having a blast round Bedgebury at the weekend, hopefully this time it will stay intact!
