I think this is a very nice place to sit....

Bought and paid for, I unfortunately can't pick it up for a couple of weeks, which after only two days of 'ownership' is becoming a right pain.
I've been lurking on here for a good few years now and feel like I know you all, so bring on the banter, I'm tall dark and handsome and not a war dodger like Bins!!
Seriously I've been looking for ages and got Grant's book two and a half years ago, and was really after a different colour (hope you all like it), every one that I've been watching for the last 3 years I've seen sold from under my nose, whilst I've been preparing the ground (building a house / garage and buying things to sleep on and eat - my wife seems to think that stuff is important)
I've had TVRs and a new engine in a Porshe so I know it won't be cheap to run, but hey, I have an Aston Martin.

12 more sleeps..

Lovely - I'm sure it will be worth the wait! Is that Magma Red?

Be sure to post pictures here http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

Thanks,

Pete,

It's Toro Red and when I get it and get some real pics, I'll post them at the link.

Simple solution for you, don't buy the DB9 but instead treat yourselves to one of these, then you will both be 100% happy! Probably a little bit cheaper too... smile

Good job!
I went through the same delayed-gratification process as you... although I was "looking" for about TEN years. I found that while I was originally interested in a 90's Virage, my thinking evolved first to a DB7 and finally to DB9. Sometimes not buying the first vehicle you see is a good thing, so maybe it was a blessing in disguise that those others got away! And while I didn't really want the Titanium Silver I ended up with, I now love it and can't imagine anything else, so I'm sure you'll find the Toro Red perfect.
I also discovered the secret to a high WAF (Wife Acceptance Factor): within the course of a single month I passed a kidney stone, had my appendix removed, and had to travel to a third-world country on business. When a DB9 became available at a good price a week after my return (and a week before my birthday!) my emotionally-exhausted wife said "Oh, you'd better buy it!"

Rappa, thank god you've finally bought one, I can now have some peace and quiet! Nice work fella, colour is gorgeous. Bring it up to Valley, the drive through Wales will make you smile! Speak soon dude.

All,

Zuman,

I hear you with the Wife conditioning thing, although passing a kidney stone to get the sympathy and go ahead is a little extreme for me.

Adam,

Nice furniture, but I have to say that would be as well as the DB9 and unfortunately I got to choose cutlery about 20 years ago and I'm longer 'eligible' to pass opinion on household goods. I am strictly limited to outside decisions!

Still 12 more nights of no sleep.

Sean

Well I eventually managed to sleep last night having picked the car up, 24 hours of ownership goes like this:

A friend dropped me off to pick the car up and he had a bigger smile than me, I was still considering how much cash I paid, but once I got in and drove off, the smile just grew and grew.

First stop Shell garage, £70 later it said that I could do 320 miles (however with a bit of motorway crushing it still showed that 70 miles later). I reset the data on the right hand screen and the motorway journey showed Av sp. 56 mph Av. MPG 28.9. Instantaneous MPG 31.1. I also didn't know how to clear the 'info center (should be centre) reset' text so I had to use the speedo to judge speed during the 50mph Specs zones!!
Then came the Emmisions Service Required' and an amber Eng light on the speedo 1 hour into ownership.

I picked my son up from school and along with the queue of teenage boys wanting to sit in it and listen to the start and some revving, even the Mums and Dads all came to admire. I now have lots of fingerprints to clean off.

The initial driving experience was that it seemed like a familiar place, but I have test driven lots and spent a long time viewing pictures of ones for sale.

The car seems to be going fast but the speedo shows a sedate (within speed limits speed) pace. My Porsche and TVR encouraged speed but this seems to tell you that you're going fast enough and when you click the paddle and put your foot down it says 'if you want to go fast you only had to ask' followed by 'would you like some points on your licence with that'.

I got home and tried the spare keys and somehow I got a series of error messages, Mike at BR helped out and after a system reset all was good, the 'Emmissions Service Required' still exsists 24hrs later. Question 1 Which OBD reader do I get and where do I plug it in.

Question 2 is once I put my no. plates on what is a good sticky foam pad to use as the one on there at the moment doesn't seem very good (pic below):

There is a 'read' button on the middle right of the ski slope console. Also if you press the push button on the left wiper/indicator stalk a few times.

I've had that problem too, I got a roll of plate tape from Halfords which works well. I recommend rigging something up to apply some pressure overnight to ensure a good stick. I used some bits of wood wrapped in cloth wedged between he plate and the garage door.

It looks like the number plate plinth is already gone so that's one less job to do!

Great colour BTW!

Montecristo, thanks. I'm deep into the owners manual now and I've got your advice now lodged in my head.

Theaxe, thanks for the advice, a trip to Halfords it is, good excuse to go for a drive!!

Any joy on a good OBD reader? There are lots on eBay, but I don't know which one is good. I assume that is what is required to investigate the 'Emissions Service Required' advice.

My OBD reader says CAN OBD II MEMOSCAN U480 on it, got it from Amazon if I remember rightly.

You could also try heavy duty Velcro for the plate. Mine has been on with that for a month or so and seems fine. Also available at Halfords.

Gorgeous car, by the way. Lovely colour. Congrats on your purchase!

Number plate solution. Bend beyond what is needed and apply heat, even from a hair dryer until hot, keep bent until cool. Springs back a bit. Hey presto. No popping stickies.
And Echo everyone else, congratulations, enjoy.

Thanks guys. The colour is good. I probably wouldn't have changed any of the colours inside or out if I was buying new.

Do you know where the OBD connects to the car?

Two tricks I use
Poor hot water over the plate and gently mold it to the bumper arc
Use heavy duty velcro to hold it on, much better grip and actually easy to adjuste position or remove completely wink

+1 for Velcro

I have a 3/4 plate I use which looks less bulky and a full size plate in the boot in case I ever need it, easy to swap but I've never felt vulnerable to it being stolen
