A3 3.2 flapper mod

Hi, I've been reading about the flapper mod for a quick and easy win on the a3 3.2 exhaust. Ive just had a look, and to disconnect the actuator rod from the flap is easy, the problem is getting the flap to say open as it is so free to move. Anyone have a good tip for keeping it open?

The pic is taken from another forum site, but no advise how to finish the job!
