Problem with delivered goods
Discussion
Finally a valid excuse for posting on PH
My boss had a brand new cooker delivered to him just before Christmas. He didn't bother opening the box to check it (foolish I know
), as the box looked fine and not bashed about. He signed for it and ticked the "item unchecked" box.
Now last week he opened the box to get the cooker installed (he's having a new kitchen put in, hence why the box was unopened until now). The cooker it totally smashed, with dents on some of the corners and the glass all broken on the front of it. It's basically junk and doesn't work.
The company he purchased it from (and are also the company who delivered it) doesn't want to know as it's more than 7 days since it was delivered. He paid via credit card, so contacted them for help, but they're not interested either. Is there anyone he can contact for help with this? as he feels done, having received goods that are no use

It's his own fault for not checking it out.
Normally the company would claim from the carrier, if they use one, and their terms of business always have a clause whereby claims must be made within so many days.
The trouble these days is that the consumer is so nannied that they refuse to ever take any responsibility for anything.
(No offence to your boss.

) Tough break. The "not checked" thing is a definate must always when taking delivery of anything. If there's no box to tick, scrawl it on the signature sheet!
Having said that, its *is* then your responsibility to check it asap.
On the other side of the coin, the company it was bought from have no way to know your boss didn't accidentally reverse a skip truck into it or drop it down the stairs etc in the intervening month...

I was the Logistics Manager for a white goods company some years back.
You would not believe the number of people who try it on and, sadly, this tarnishes the general attitude to this type of complaint.
He should have inspected it and so the manufacturer won't accept any liability - even though his complaint may well be geniune.

Cheers guys, you've pretty much confirmed what I thought on the matter. I did mention it was a bit silly of him not to check it when it arrived, I'm sure he will with all future purchases! Does seem odd that the box was fine but the cooked was smashed, almost as if it was put into the box broken
