PS3 recommendations (Lesser known..)
Discussion
Hi.
For background, I have a PS4 and loved Alien Isolation including all DLC, BloodBorne (first experience of this type of game), GTA5 and Dying Light and have tried many other PS4 games (..witcher 3 shortly). All brilliant.
At the moment I am back on the PS3, playing Dark Souls for the first time having enjoyed BloodBorne so much, reveling in the challenge of the Dark Souls game, challenge and environment (YOU DIED is imprinted in my mind both awake and sleeping..) and as such, the PS4 is back on stand by and being ignored.
What this experience has reminded me is that the PS3 has some brilliant games, that can be bought second hand and don't cost half as much as trying to stay on the edge of the envelope buying ALL the new PS4 games as they come along at full launch day prices.
I'm trying to collate more recommended titles for the PS3 (whether well known and I missed them... or lesser known) as I only played a few games right through on it at the time (Skyrim being the last major cannot put the controller down, game).
I'd appreciate any recommendations of games you tried and really think are worth the effort.
Two titles on my list are Nier and Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch.
Any thoughts or are you all right on the edge of the newer latest stuff?
Cheers!

The Last of Us - One of the best games of all time in my opinion.
Half-Life(2), Portal, Bioshock, Deus Ex, Batman Arkham Asylum, Uncharted series (the last Tomb Raider was good) Dishonoured, Borderlands, Ratchet and Clank (tools of destruction) are all worth a look.
None are lesser known really but worth mentioning.

The Last of us - I was clean off the back of Skyrim and free roaming so it never bit me. I must get back to it now I'm more used to slightly more linear play
Half-Life(2) - I ran a counter strike clan for years so know them very well.
Portal - Played it on PC and loved it
Bioshock - I couldn't find any way to get into that game. I played it a couple of times and just didn't buy into it. Not sure why
Deus Ex - A particular version? I installed the original game on a pc a year or so ago and it didn't bite me
Batman - Felt too orchestrated at the time for me but my friends all highly rate them
Uncharted - tried a couple of times and like the last of us, felt too linear. I have a version on the Ps Vita that I will try for now
Dishonoured - I don't know this one. I'll check it out
Borderlands - I really enjoyed that. I was surprised as I'm crap with a controller for shooting games. I'm a pc mouse player and never really managed to get accurate aiming with controller but still really enjoyed it. Didn't complete it but made lots n lots of progress.
Ratchet & Clank - I don't know this one and will check it out
Thanks for the advice.

I'm mostly a PC gamer and struggle with shooters on the PS3. LoU is a bit linear but I actually prefer that in story driven games so it suited me. I could understand the issue coming off something like Skyrim. The Last of us - I was clean off the back of Skyrim and free roaming so it never bit me. Deus Ex, the most recent or the original (not sure this is on PS3)
Batman - I shouldn't have liked this but I did. I like the more confined area of the prison over the open world approach in City. It can feel contrived in places.
Uncharted is very linear/story driven but it's very well done.
Dishonoured is a quite open world hitman/assasins creed in a steampunk environment. You can play sneaky/stabby or shooty unlike some stealth games if you get discovered it's not game over. Some rpg elements in character, weapons and skills.
R&C is a 3D platformer in the classic mould. One of the few games I have replayed for the achievements.

Oh, just remembered - Journey on PS3 is intriguing and enjoyable, if very short. I haven't tried them yet but also try Flow and Flower if you like Journey.
All of which are on, or coming to PS4. I'm looking forward to playing through Journey again once it's had a lick of paint.Steve Evil said:

Interesting, I'll have a look when I get round to getting a PS4. I'm holding out until Mirror's Edge 2 is out, I loved the original on PS3. Actually that's another possibility for the OP, Mirror's Edge.Gassing Station | Video Games | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
